OK,
when it come to auto electrics I'm dumb, I admit it. I am trying to wire in my UHF but am having trouble finding a point where I can tap into the wiring harness. I am considering just leaving it to the Auto Electrician.

What do you guys do???? Any hints.

Run the positive wire to the aux battery positive terminal(with an inline fuse if you want to) and run the negative wire to earth. Too easy...lol

Toytruck,
With an 80series there is a 'power outlet' box in the engine bay, I'm sure the 100 would have the same. Wire it to this as it gives you the choice of constant power (same as direct battery connection), ACCessory power, or IGNition power. All three choices are fused within the power outlet box and there is also a NEGative connection in there as well. This way all you need to do is run 6mm dual core cable to the power outlet box!

If you have dual batteries, then wire it direct to AUX

Rob,

100 series doesn't have that feature, like the 75 & 79's. Don't know why not, it's a useful addition.

Hooroo...

Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.

Toytruck.

Depends on if you want the ability to run it with the car ignition off or if you want to be able to run it just when the ignition is turned to on/accessories.

I wanted the later, i just tapped into the power behind the ciggy lighter plug. no need to fuse as it is protected by the car's fuse for the cig lighter plug. i did however put one on just in case. the uhf will only run if i have the key in the ignition, works for me so i dont have to worry about making sure the uhf was turned off at night. havent needed it any other way and it saves you running new power wiring through the firewall of the vehicle... you are only going to have to worry about the ariel.

besides, it is easy in most vehicles to get the the wiring behind the cig lighter plug ;-)

Cheers
Tom.

This is the way I went and for my needs it was great. In the 100 series it is VERY easy to get to that power behind the lighter socket.

G,day toytruck. Yes with my 100series all i did is to tap into the R.H side power/lighter socket. That way no extra fuses are required and only comes on with ignition on.
cheers.. happy camping.

I wired it up to the AUX starter battery through a fuse.
