Hi all
Looking for advice on where to get general service on Troopie (HZJ79) in Canberra. Also what is latest on best place for specialist diesel advice and service.
Also after advice on best suspension set up for same vehicle - bullbar, winch rear bar, fitout. Have had Dobinson springs and Rancho shocks on previous vehicle which were very good - also looking for supplier.
Thanks in advance.
Pete

Most of my friends with 78/79series have ARB suspension with either the Dakar springs, or the Aussie ones that preceded them. No complaints from anyone. With some weight on the back, their 600kg springs are good. I wouldn't bother with greasable shackles as the bushes are sleeved these days anyway. I've got the heaviest front coils which they recommend with a winch.

If you want your Troopcarrier to ride well, handle very predictable, and take Australia in it's stride then you would probably do as I did and fit OME.
Can't help with service unless you do as I do and do it your self

Hi Pete.
I am also in Canberra and own a Troopie (HJ75) which I have taken to the far corners of remote Oz - Cape twice, Gulf twice, numerous Simpson crossings and a flood of other major tracks. After 5 other L/Cs my Troopie is the closest thing to perfection for what I need. The secret was the suspension. I have tried Ultimates and Pedders etc on all my other vehicles but the Troopie, for what I needed, presented new challenges - bigger and no longer taking a camp trailer. Gone too were my days of 'bushbashing' or 'mudthrashing', I needed to travel long distances on poor roads; cross sand dunes and do it in comfort - the answer? OME from ARB. BUT instead of going heavy duty, I went light - real light. On advice from ARB I fitted a 400kg set of springs (and shocks) and continue to impress all who ride with me on the exceptional ride and handling ability of the vehicle - soaks the road up with unbelievable ease - cruises over the worst at 80-100kph with perfect control with absolutely no pitching when running dunes. I couldn't be happier. Go light not heavy with the springs. The Troopie now "wallows" and glides over corrugations with effortless aplomb. Brilliant!
Just so you know what else the suspension has to cope with - it sports a full bar, winch, side rails, Kaymar rear bar, dual batteries, lights, roof rack as well as full drawer kit, fridge and the camp gear - quite a bit of add-on weight - no problem.
As for the service? I'm back at Canberra Toyota and have built up a good relationship with them. Not ideal but very handy should a major be required. They do NOT touch the afte-market turbo though. The diesel shop in Berrima look after that.
If you'd like to test my Troopie, give me a call - 0407239950 - and we could meet up some time and I can show you how it performs? Wouldn't' take much to show you how it performs.
Goodluck, Phil

Hi Phil

Thanks for the info - am looking at a set up from 4wd1 at the moment - Tough Dog Coils on the front, Rockcrawler rear leaf springs and Rancho shocks - sounds good, will do a comparison with what ARB has to offer. Might give you a call during the week. Thanks to others for advice as well.
Cheers
Pete
