I stand corrected - the fee to cross the
Jardine also covers the permit for travel North of
Jardine

I believe you have to ask permission to enter aboriginal
reserves and some other small locations.

I believe north of the
Jardine is covered with your $88 return ferry fee for travel &
camping in designated areas. The fee may have gone up a bit now.
Othewise Qld National Parks.

If you go to the gulf country dont bother going to Nullenboy (SP)
You need a permit for the 'locals to do anything, in fact I think you even need one to take a dump now. Of course you have to pay for these and pay bigtime.
Getting a permit to travel into some 'Native" title areas is a real PITA. What gets my goat is my taxes are spent maintaining these areas yet I cant go there. I was born in Australia, I am native to Australia yet cause I'm white I'm not allowed to travel to some parts of my country. A country I have risked my life serving.
But hey, if they don't what me to visit and spend money in their community then I won't. Plenty of other parts of Australia more deserving of my money.

hi to chuck and 666toy, I did actually ask as to WHO to contact in regards to permits ( if required) to travel in the areas mentioned, not whether I should bother going, and is it really THAT hard to ask for a permit and observe a few local traditions (aside from the sniffers) , to either travel thru or
camp at a few remote locations in OUR country. Yes I am white, yes I served in the ADF, 21 yrs so what. Thanks to all others that did bother to answer my question.

I went out to Gove Nullenbouy a few months ago. I applied for a permit at the lands council in
Katherine $40 no problem but you had to prove you had accommodation in Gove as there is no
camping permitted. I also went to
Mitchell Plateau and Kalumbaru, permits were no problem and once again $40 which I find very resonable. You hear so many stories about a lot of these
places and how difficult the conditions are and permit problems but usually doing some homework asking the right people the right questions a little commonsense and tolerance and you can go virtually anywhere except military installations and there are quite a few secret ones of those I have come across in my travels. If all else fails call me and I can take you there. Cheers Rob
