Hi all
I'm about to update my lease vehicle and seeing I'm off for 4 months long service leave (Kimberleys and NT) would like quite a few extras this time.
I have tried to get details out of the lease mob without much success as one refers me to financier and the other to salary packaging firm so thought someone here would know.
I know I can get the dealer to fit most of the extras and that I would get warranty then, but thought I might get a better deal if I got some $$$ put aside and take the new car to ARB/TJM etc and get them to fit everything.
Is it possible to get a small slush fund put aside for these purchases? Or am I better off getting everything delivered with the new vehicle from the dealer ( i am worried that the dealer may have limited experience fitting stuff like poly airs).
Also last time I ordered I negotiated the price myself....what do people think of brokers?
Cheers
Tez

I would have thought that you could arrange for the dealer to take the car to the 3rd party accessory suppliers on your behalf - and then just pay the dealer?

Simple if you live near a city or large regional centre. Unfortunately nearest 4x4 stores are about 2 hours away from dealer :-( I guess I'll just need to get a quote from the dealer then make a choice.

Get the dealer to get a price, and you get a price. If you want to go with your price, you can still get the dealer to include it in his price, and to be fitted after delivery - all depends whether the dealer wants the sale and how much effort he's prepared to go to.. - and if he thinks he might not get the sale, you should be pretty right..

Something to check is whether the lease company will accept after-market accessories/modifications, I know some, if not all, will only accept genuine parts, given they are the actual owner of the vehicle.

Good point. Hasn't been a problem with my current lease but will check with additional mods.

When I bought my Patrol, I spoke to the dealer about ARB gear. I liaised with ARB on what I wanted and basically agreed on a price. I then told the dealer teh order with ARB. The dealer delivered the car to ARB and brought it back to the dealership when finished. ARB invoiced the dealer, and I produced one cheque to the dealer for the complete product - covering car and ARB components. Worked great - and dealer seemed happy to do it. Made it simpler for my bank with the novated lease also.

Alan

Most firms do not allow accessories after the commencent of the lease. All funds are for bone-fide maintenance, fuel and other running costs.
Mine, for instance, specifies that you cannot claim accessories.
As most have suggested most dealers can arrange the fitting of after market accessoroes by outlets such as ARB, etc. before you take possession of the vehicle.
I actually sold my current Prado to a lease firm then leased it back (much cheaper to run on salary sacrifice) and all accessories were included in the price.
Mind you I don't see a mandrel bend 2 3/4 inch exhaust as an accessory but a replacement cost.

G'day Tez
I live in
Karratha so it was a bit hard to get to all the different
places to
shop for new vehicle accessories. The salesman at
Karratha Toyota arranged everything I requested to be fitted pre-delivery (tray,
wheels, supension, LR
tank,
water tank etc) and took the hassle out of it. Most of the bits were ARB, but not all. I might have been able to negotiate a bit better price here and there if I had done it myself, but for the lack of hassle, good value.
You might run into trouble trying to set aside dollars for after sale purchaces.
Regards
Waz

G'day Tez,
If accessories are added to a vehicle after it is purchased and claimed via the lease, then this adds to the vehicle base price used to determine FBT limit i.e. you pay more FBT (really no different to getting the dealer to add on at the start). Going through a 3rd party lease company will make it pretty hard to get this stuff approved as maintenance items (which does not affect the vehicle base price), especially for a new vehicle.
It sounds like you're aware of this anyway, just asking whether it's better to allocate the funds via the lease. As long as you are aware the FBT will increase, then no issue. If you can sneak through as maintenance, then all the better.
Hugh

Thanks to all. seems like I just try to get the dealer down to the best price with all accessories of my choosing. His problem to source them and get them fitted. I realise that trying to save a $100 off the total won't make much difference over the term of the lease anyway.

We have never worried about it. Just put on what you want, as long as it is fitted by qualified persons and it is not illegal. Make sure you add these items to your insurance.

I have novated leased 2 vehicles including the current JEEP.
In essence it works like this.
Last years cutoff amount was $57,002.00 from memory before the vehicle was deemed a 'luxury' vehicle.
So I was entitled to lease a 'package' (key word that) up to the aforementioned amount.
The JEEP was $51,000 on the road and the dealer added $4,000 of accessories (My specification) bringing it up to $55,000.
The accessories were fitted by the dealer via third party suppliers.
This is the key part - I had to pay one amount (including the accessories ) at the time of purchase which was novated, and drive the vehicle from the show room with those accessories fitted/supplied.

Surely you wold be better off going as hard as you can on your order form .
At least then you wold be getting discount price on everything and your whole package would be insured by the lease company without any problems , you should even specify the type of tyre you want the vehicle delivered with .
Doesnt cost anything to put the quote form in , just keep going till you are satisfied.
Glenn.
