Well I finally got a day off that enabled me attend an outing with a few off this site. So last Sunday I arrived at Daybaro and joined 4 other vehicles for another of Andrew's organised outings. Introductions and briefing out of the way we headed off, me bringing up the rear.
Before long we hit the dirt and headed inland as i'm still on a learning curve I had my son check as I went over a few humps to get a gauge of the clearance on entry ramp over and exit, Son indicated all was fine with plenty of room. Not long after that taking it easy I got hung up on one of
the humps. Right front wheel off ground and rear left no traction checked under and hooked up on cross member. Sprung (bugger) photo's taken.......... a bit of weight on the rear
wheels and off I shot.
Next we stopped at the bottom of this
hill, which we walked and looked at, I figured this will be interesting, after what i just got hung up on. Ramsay (hope thats correct spelling) third in line, after the other two had got to the top would wait half way up, just in case I got stuck.
Well i'm pleased to say I made it up thus far without help just taking the dust off the canopy negotiating between the trees. I did however get stuck 3/4 of the way up (bugger), I tried the main track but maybe my lack of confidence, I reversed out and took the chicken track (thats what I called it) even then I got stuck but once a few rooks and sticks were placed under the
wheels a lot of right boot and up I went albeit some extra weight on the rear
wheels (sorry about the ride up
hill on top fellas).
Next time I get to this spot I will walk the main track and pick a path as I proberly could have made it just had to get wheel placement right and some extra boot. More likely confinance on my part would have helped as
well.
Next was a steep decent a bit of lost traction at first, sliding in the soft sand until the vehicle regained traction from there it was easy and just glided down but I opted out of the option to go back up. Ramsay tried first but failed and another vehicle went up, and made it. Ramsay did made it on the second effort with a bit more right boot and momentum.
We all then headed off to lunch and nice break. Back on the road and our next stop a
lookout, over looking
Somerset Dam. A break and some photo's and about an hour later we were out of area and said our goodbye's.
Thanks to Andrew for organising the outing and was good to meet others off the site, both my son and I had a great time and I learnt a lot and just had a fun day out. Will be looking forward to other outings in the area as it is very nice drive. A bit of rain would not go astray to green it up a bit of course.
As for the photo's I will see how I go in getting a couple up. Of course anyone that went on the trip if you want a copy please contact me and I can get your address and send a disc, there is about 150 photos
