Hi
I have the opportunity to pick up some second hand 90% Cooper STT 285/70/17 which I would like to fit on my Prado 120series GXL with factory alloy wheels.
Has anyone fitted these tyres and are there any rubbing issues and how is the road noise ?
Use will be 80% road 20% off-road, so ride comfort and road noise are important factors.
Thanks in anticipation

overall diameter is 32.7" vs. 30.56" for the standard 265/65R17s
I'd be very surprised if they didn't fit. You'd have a 6-7% under-stated speedo (it says 100, you're doing 106.5), and a little less power ... from the different gearing)
As for the STTs, they suit me fine - I have 285/75R16s on my 100 Series which is almost the same change in diameter from the stock 275/70R16 and almost the same as the difference between that and the 265/65R17s they put on the higher end models today.
I don't mind the noise which is not that bad compared to the word ATs I had prior.
That said,
mine get a reasonable workout off-road.
Chers
Andrew.

The 285s might fit the 100 series but from what I gather I will need a 2in lift to make them fit under the guards of the Prado 120.....

I have 265/70R17 Goodyear MTRs on my 120 prado with stock
suspension and they rub slightly on the plastic guard liners at the front behind the bullbar. It also has to do with the way the liners were refitted after the bullbar installation but that is another story! The MTRs are almost identical in pattern to the Cooper STT if they are the new pattern.
On full lock there is only a finger width gap between the rear of the tyre and the front mudflap.
You may also foul the
suspension component that sits just behind the top of the tyre. Run you hand around the top inside edge of the tyre and you will see the issue that makes it difficult to fit snow chains on the front of a 120 Prado. I suspect this might be an issue for your wider tyres.
Think you may be pushing the bounds with that one!

Many thanks for your advice, I think I will stick to 265/70R17s and start saving up for some new ones ! Any advice with regards to a dealer in
Melbourne who does good deals on Coopers, Goodyear or BFG ?
Thanks a lot for all the invaluable advice !

Try Razz Tyres Glen Waverley for your last price on Coopers, not sure about the others.
