Hi Folks,

I own one of these fancy 2003 3.0ltr Nissan Patrols and when listening on the HF radio with the wipers operating I get interference over radio.
When using the air-con I get the same. This could be the compressor or the electric fan out front of condenser and radiator as it cuts in and out every 30 seconds. Any suggestions to alleviate fault would be appreciated.
Thanks P&J

My interference comes from the thermo fan that comes on with the air con compressor. It never rains here, so I am not sure about the wipers, but I would say that the wipers, windows and just about anything else will interfere to a certain degree. Danfoss BD35f compressors common in alot of fridges also interfere horribly. The older model BD35's weren't as bad. Seems worse on a few frequencies. When you find a fix for it, please post on this site, or better still, patent the idea and email us from the Bahama's with the fix. I have 2 electrical trades and have spent some time trying to eliminate it with littel success. No body else I know has found a 100 % fix either.
Good Luck.

First thing to try is a 0.001 cap across the motor. You can also try some clip on ferrite blocks on the leads. This should bring the interference down to a manageable level. Using earthing straps between the hood and chassis is another thing to try.
As for the compressors, I've already posted the story with those. It involves a low pass filter.
Cheers

That's what I thought - a hood's a hood, and a bonnet is what real aussies cover their engine bays with.

For those who have eaten too much Maccas, the other end's the boot.

I get interference thru my UHF which I think is caused by the ABS. The noise clicks faster as my speed increases. 2000 GU Patrol.

My Magellan Meridian causes a 'whine' in the radio. This is when operating the GPS from either the AA internal batteries or plugged into cigarette lighter.
The noise isn't there using the Tape or CD.

I have the same problem, GUIV Patrol. I don't have ABS, I have proved that it is the speedo sensor or parts. The interference appears when the speedo starts to work.

The interference varies dependent on the frequency (in this case HF) Ferrite clips have marginally helped.

The usual earthing measures (plus some) have done very little to help.

Post a cure if you find one.

Cheers
