You great guys from our magic "Guides To Adventure" (Scotty & Mary-Anne) trip 1989,take note..Just received back from www.dvdinfinity.com.au my 4x3 hour VHS tapes (latest thing in 1989) which those clever folk have enriched and dubbed to DVD's ( 7 off ) and DV-tape ( 13 ) .. Amazing clarity compared to originals..Great presentation of the discs and book type cases (pictures-text etc)..My intentions are to edit the 13 dv tapes back to one action DVD (going to take some disipline..lotta action in there) on my two dual Macs in Final Cut Pro® to make available to the general adventure minded public in both PAL and NTSC..There goes most of 2007 already (still fit in some 4x4 adventures tho)..Barb drove our nine year old Diahatsu F-55 diesel pick-up throughout the adventure.I (Brian)had a remote Panasonic video camera hooked by cable to a Panasonic AG-6400 pro VHS recorder powered by motorcycle batteries worn in belt backs with charging by a solar panel on the roof-rack.(Video cams were very power hungry in those times..Chewed up batteries)!MPG:8!

It must be great to look back on the adventure with quality playback.
I had a look at their site, seems like they do a professional job.

What sort of prices are involved?

Hey Banjo (WA) ! Good to hear from you.Your inquiry would seem to indicate you have material to archive.Be it linear (VHS / DV tapes) or emulsion based (Negative or positive..photo/slide) they are all degrading every day. There are no hospitals for your originals. They just keep getting sicker every day and die. Some may even feel that we are selfish not to take steps to preserve such pictorial history for future generations to share.Suggest you and others in same boat get the wheels rolling to implement a solid backup procedure to a digital disc base.My understanding is that, once archived to CD..DVD..DV-tape,the information can be faithfully re-produced over and over, thereby eleminating the "lossy" (lousy) sit we had with negs, positives and VHS / S-VHS tapes. Now,presuming you suffered all the above,to answer your question..Prices! On first receiving your quote from Mr Bruce Josephs or others at DVD Infinity, you will no doubt,buck..Then,as reality sets in and you realise you really only have one chance at getting this right, knowing full well these guys are at least as good as their publicity "blurbs" indicate, unless you are willing to settle for second rate dubs done on the old "projection" system (hot),you will pack up the originals and get DVD Infinity to complete the mission. The "cold" scan method they use for movie frames of any format and film based photo materials, together with the clever software which enhances greatly the final result visually, will justify your financial outlay.(Sorry if he rambled on a bit)..Talk's cheap..Have fun..RockyOne
