G'day all
Just spent a few days over on Fraser Island, and as a few of you may be going over for the holidays I thought I'd pass on some up to date information. Very few people over there at the moment apart from the troopcarriers full of backpackers, we had some heavy rain last Sunday night that firmed up the inland tracks but they are still deeply rutted and very slow going. We camped at Dundabura which still has not had the new amenities completed, as they are still waiting for the septic system to be installed, I don't think anything has been done to it for over a year. The old amenities are still operational. The bypass track around Indian head is very soft and badly cut up, very few people were making it through without getting bogged, if anybody is planning to tow a campertrailer to Waddy Point they may have some major trouble getting through this section. For anyone who's interested fuel on the island was around $1.60 ULP and $1.70 for Deisel. We had a great trip and as most of you who have been there will agree it's a unique place. Hope this info is useful to someone.

Regards Jon

Hi Jon,
We haven't been back to Fraser for many years, but like you said, it is a magic place.
Must make the trip back again one day.

Thanks

Stephen

Its hard to explain to people that havnt been there . Its like stepping on the moon or something . You leave the bitumen behind and when your wheels go off the barge onto fraser its sort of magical .

First time I went to Fraser sandmining was in full swing. We camped at Eli creek for a week and saw no other vehicle on the beach.

Then somone decided to SAVE the place. Now it is all boardwalks, regulations and fees.
