Have just got a new Santa Fe - 2006 model - V6 petrol and we are having problems with the petrol spitting back when filled to the extent that, if the person filling doesn't jump they get wet with petrol. Has been checked by local agent (its only 2 months old) but they can find nothing amiss but agree its not right. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem, particularly with a 2006 Santa Fe - and if so what was done to remedy it.

Hi Anne,i don't have your model car but have F250 & it does the same on diesel,it must have some thing to do with the breather set up in the moder cars.:o)))

Pajero does the same thing near fill.
Just have to go slow when getting near full, you can hear the sound change.
Never thought of complaining to the dealer when I bought it.
Bit of a pain getting those last 3 to 5 litres in.
Sorry, doesn't help your problem with the Santa Fe.

it reminds a little of when i was younger and had a hq wagon with the stupid filler that used to pour out when ever you filled it.
ill never forget the time i filled and and got fuel over my arm as usual.
jumped in the car and lit a smoke next thing you know my arms on fire.
as im waving it out the window trying to put it out the coppers notice and pull me over
result was i was charged with having an illegal fire arm.

Twice I've used a hired V6 Santa Fe, and didn't experience the filling problem, so it must be just yours that's the prob.
Complain.

Thank you all for your replies so far. They have checked the breather valve and the carbon filter and maintain all is working OK.
It does appear that people just accept that this can happen - but this is a new car (the 2006 model was only released round the beginning of the year) and I really object to having to change my clothes after filling the
tank if I don't jump fast enough!!!
I would love to hear from anyone who has a 2006 V6 Santa Fe if they have the same problem - but meanwhile I will keep at the dealer and Hyundai!!

What I find is that it often depends on the bowser that you use. Some are extremely fast and some aren't. The fast ones cause most problems. Also if your
tank is hot there will be more vapours and this can cause blow back. Most modern cars I've driven of late you get this problem. My work 380 Magna does it, my Terracan has since I've had the duel tanks fitted. Gives you the bleep s though.
