Troop needs breather

Have any 1HZ owners come up with a non invasive way of attaching breather tubes to the transfer case and gearbox? I've exhausted my list of expletives - intonation, sequence, cadence and volume combinations all tried but still my improvisations are insecure.

Hope there's some inventor out there with a good method that doesn't involve removal of the stubbs or tapping them.

Is there some commercial group that does this - and what are their solutions?

Just three weeks to the big tour

Best regards

Chris

Sorry to say the only time to have them fitted is when you're fitting a new clutch when they hang down.
The only real answer is use a boat if the water's that deep :))

On our Cruiser (HZJ105)it had breather hoses attached to both and running up to the top of the bell housing, I just extended them to the top of the firewall.

Ahhh it was a bad question... Really interested in those who have obviously cheaper versions like series 78 troopy. No tubes on transmission - just stubs with valves gearshift and a little further to the rear.

My recollection of Prado is that it too just had stubs with crimped on valves.

Really difficult trick due to very small stub height and limited access.

Am now designing adapter to take to machine shop tomorrow.

Thanks fir interest. Other half already very resistant to the words boat and canoe. Will try 'breather' but fear she would soon cotton on.

Cheers

On our 4 runner it only had as you discribed so I pulled the old breathers out(push in fit) machined up some 90deg fittings and pressed them back in useing retaining compound.I made a tee on the gearbox and went from the transfer to gearbox and then continued on up to the fire wall.It was a tight fit doing it but with the interior boot off it was possible.Dont know what the troopys are like though.

Thanks Nick.

I'm loath to start somehting I can't finish - or that eventually has me lowering the gearbox on this new, under warranty, car. Am off today with a design for an adaptor to have made, but if ARB or Toyota say that they are ready to do the breathers, then that will be the way I go. (Running out of time)

Thanks very much for your help.
