I ended up getting the Canon EOS 30D. I was flicking thru the paper on Saturday, and saw it cheaper with a couple of lenses than I had seen it at a lot of
places for just the body only.
For those that are interested it came with the Canon EF-S 18-55. and a Tamron AF 55-200 F/4-5.6 LD Macro. Right now these 2 lenses are good enough for me, and I am very happy with the camera...It is an absolute beauty!
So thanks very much to everyone who replied and gave their advice and opinions. It was very much appreciated.
Cheers

Gagm.
Good choice, you won't be disappointed with that combo.
Don't forget to get a good tripod & maybe a speed light flash, Sigma make one that's as good as the Canon one but heaps cheaper!

The only camera that MAY be compatible would be the Sony Alpha100. Take the lenses in to a camera store to confirm it.

Nice one.......
Sounds like a good choice......... Now just make sure we get to see a few pics from it. :)
It's always nice to see someone else's perspective on the world through their pictures...

Thanks, it will be a while before I am taking pictures I am happy enough to post. It does make me want to get away and get snapping, which is always a good thing.

Good effort on the 30D - following your previous thread am now seriously looking at the Nikon D80 - so much more comfortable to hold than the EOS 400D and the kit lens is a lot better quality. Will miss out on the dust removal but I figure that shouldnt be too great a loss.
However, will be paying just under $2,000 with the 18-200 and would be interested to know what you paid for your deal with the 30D (and whether this includes the Canon cashback?).
Cheers

This fits beautifully in the hand, where the EOS 400D was a bit uncomfortable and small for me. I paid $2099 with the 2 lenses. It was $1899 for the body alone...which I had seen for $2300 elsewhere. Bound to see it cheaper now...which is always the way...but I am more than happy with it.
Let me know what you end up getting. I looked at the Nikon D200, but it was another $600 or so. Plus I am used to Canon's menu system and software from previous cameras, although they were fairly simple in comparison. So the 30D seems familiar already.

Thanks Truckster, I will grab that info off you. But right now I will just play with these lenses for a while, and hopefully later on I will know exactly what I need...plus if I tell the missus I want new lenses already I will be fighting for the camera as part of a divorce settlement....and that's not something I want to risk...I love this camera...lol
