Hi All
I was wondering if anyone can help me. I am new to the gps world, I bought the Garmin Nuvii 660 yesterday.
This is my problem. When I turn it on it detects where I am (no worries). Can I find out how far it is from 1 place to another in a different state to where I am.
For instance...I am in Eaton WA but I want to find out the route and distance from
Melbourne cbd to Altona
Meadows.
Can this be done. I cand find anything in the user manual that covers this.
Thanks
Peter

Peter,
Haven't used your specific GPS but I have used a lot of other units over the years including Garmin and Magellan.
On the panel you will find a button market 'GOTO' or it could be a leter 'D' with an arrow through it ... meaning 'direct to'.
Pressing that button will bring up a list of alternatives (MOB, USER, CITIES etc). Arrow the cursor over your choice and hit the enter button and that should bring up all your options, usually in order of nearest to most distant. 'Cursor' to your preferred waypoint, select enter and read off bearing and distance. If you are moving towards it you should also have time to go and ETA displayed.
MOB = man over board, and is the stored position at the precise moment you hit the GOTO button. Handy if you are a yachtie!
USER= stored waypoint. Consult the manual and you will be able to insert user waypoints that may include home, hotel,
shop or whatever you are looking for when wandering around a strange city.

i "THINK" when u change the display from one the map view to (for example) the list of upcoming corners / events that are you are going to do, this will show u the total time, along with ETA. Not 100% sure but i THINK so.

my home address to the place you want to start from and then state where to want to travel to , This should work for you, Then go back and change your home address back to what it was b4

Hi Ozdragon,
I cant answer your query specifically, but my Magellan Meridian will only give a 'line of sight' distance when l ask for a 'goto' function. And l think it will only do a goto from the current position to a destination.
Your best bet IMHO is to ask that same question on the 'www.gpsaustralia.net'
forum.
That website is great for all gps chat & technical stuff.
Cheers

Couple of ways to that , 1 use the menu buttons to find your destination and 2 use the cursor to point out the location you want to go to and press ok/ok and should work out the road distance and best route, the best way to learn how to use a GPS is play around with it [ not while driving] and get to learn what it can do , you will be amazed and 6 months later you will still be saying ....damn I didn't know it could do that.
