Feel sorry for those affected by the worst fires ever, Over hear on the east coast NSW, we have our share as
well from time to time. It makes me mad when new subdivisions go in adjacent to heavily timbered areas, national parks, council
reserves, etc, and no provision for a fire break is considered. If you attempt to clear under scrub remove trees or any fire hazardous material, outside your
boundary councils hand you a bloody great fine!!. Some rediculous regulations & rules need to be adressed, Greenies need to pull their heads in and let common sense prevail. It stired me up this afternoon when on television it showed a dozer driver trying to cut a fire break with flames all around him!!. This should have been done six months ago. Two weeks ago i was fined $.750.00 on
the spot for
clearing lantana & privet off a
boundary line ( noxtious weeds) because there was no D/A approval. As i say will common sense ever prevail.
Cheers Axle.

Councils with their petty rules are answerable to nobody. Another example of the PC brigade gone mad while the taxpayer funds their jobs.

My neighbour, lovely lady, used to have every kind of animal under the sun. She named her place "sanctuary". Now she has 2 dogs. When the council *amalgamated* (they got a pay and ego rise), we found that our rural area ended up with some of the same rules as someone living in a high rise in Surfers. It broke her heart.
Now they are subdividing the whole of our area which will destroy it. Infastructure won't cope. Locals don't want it. It's a special area that tourists love...at the moment.
The developers have enough money to buy anyone that gets in the way, councils are cheap enough.

Sorry to tell you that the b@stards have already got that one covered...
Found this on the Reserve Bank website ...
"According to the Currency Act 1965, coins are legal tender for payment of amounts which are limited as follows:
-not exceeding 20c if 1c and/or 2c coins are offered (however, it should be noted that these coins have been withdrawn from circulation but are still legal tender);
-not exceeding $5 if any of 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c coins are offered;
-not exceeding 10 times the face value if coins in the range 50c to $10 inclusive are offered"

For a "noxtious weeds" I would not be paying there blood^ fine however I would string it out as long as I could and then go to court and along the way cause heap of shi^ via the papers and who ever I could stir up.

But when residents complain that a council isn't fulfilling its legal obligation to remove declared noxious weeds on council land, the council states it can't clear the weed - so they are immune from the law !!!

Hi Axel
Sorry to hear of your fine for
clearing Lantana it being a weed an all i would fight it in court ask counsil for what ir regards as a list of noxious weeds ect.
Fire Breaks Yes that is what they are called i use to give my time up once for the Volinteer Fire Bridgade.Untill they informed us the term Fire Break's would not be geting used anymore and they were no to be refered to as Containment Lines (American term ) I told them to shove it up there A## and have not been back.
Those Fire's are a direct result from not Back Burning i am amazed they have not worked that one out.LOL.

"Those Fire's are a direct result from not Back Burning" No Shane the fires are a direct result of over 60 lightning strikes on tinder dry bush following the dryest summer on record for 50 years. There has been extensive back burning during these fires although I do believe you meant there hasn't been enough fuel reduction burns prior to the summer. Even then you would be wrong as Parks & DSE were unable to do many controlled burns due to the very short spring period where conditions were right before the bush became too dry. In the North East area I saw several control burns done including one at Rose river which just saved a complete pine plantation & several houses. In 2004/5 nearly 1/4 of the bush seemed to be lit up in controlled burns around private property following the disasterous 2003 fires. So in reality what could be done was done & no preparations could have stopped this natural disaster & I'm amazed you haven't worked that one out. LOL :-))
And if you could forget your petty issues for a moment on the term used for a "fire break" I'm sure the communities around the High Country would appreciate your help by standing along side the other 3000 vollunteers instead of blaming others ;-)
Cheers Craig.........
