Hi All,

Following on from earlier post regarding refurbished Inverter from JayCar.

After a little deliberation I decided to take the risk and pick one up. I'm now in the dilemma as to where I should install it. I know this has been covered a couple of times, it seems the cargo barrier is common however I don't have one. I'm told it needs to be installed in an area of 'high' ventilation, however i'm not sure of this as it has it own fan.

Would it be inappropriate to install in the rear side behind the plastic cover and the outer body (i.e where the rear speaker is installed on the right hand side or jack on left?)

Any other ideas appreciated. I have recently made a roller draw which would allow me to install on one of the sides either in front or behind the wheel arch however want to utilise space as efficiently as possible and not risk breaking it with something heavy.

Thanks,
Alex

I would suggest that the only way you could safely mount it in such a confined space, is to provide some ventilation ducts to allow the fan to draw air in from the car and exhaust back into the car - providing it is fan cooled as you suggest. If you put it in a confined space without ducting to enable outside air induction and exhaust, it will simply recirculate the warm air and get hotter and hotter over time - not a good idea.

Hi Gerry,
I see what you're saying. I could even mount computer fans (running from the inverter) into the plastic wall, one at the rear end of the unit blowing cool air from the car into the confined space and another (mounted the opposite way) at the front end of the inverter blowing the hot air out.
I guess it depends how much work I want to put in it...

Sounds like you don't actually have the inverter at the moment.
get a PURE SINEWAVE inverter with a fan......

Only three very good reasons: Quality, Efficiency and Performance

Yep, I've got the inverter on the weekend. PSW 500W JayCar job (with fan).

Just looking for the 'best' place to install.

'Best' in my world is...
Easy to get too
Won't be in the way (efficient use of space)
Won't get damaged by other stuff
necessary ventilation
Cables out of the way
Preferably easy to install

Hence, the thought of installing it between side panel and car body.

Hi Alex

Hope unit works well for you.

Mine can fit under the drivers seat of my Patrol with plenty of vent space,
but wouldn't put it there unless it is fan cooled.

Mains Plugs facing forward so its easy to plug in appliances.

The sine wave inverter is not generally as efficent as the square wave type I use
but as yours is just 500w it shouldn't generate to much heat.

Actually a lot of the efficentcy issues are more related to the 12v supply lead
length than the 240v side so consider installation with minimum 12v lead run.

Mine's plugged in via 175a Anderson plugs , and it can be quickly re-positioned to under the bonnet for when I run large loads (1500w)
