The bloke with the helicopter charter business in
Mansfield was the first to advise it's demise. He flew up with some help and some
tools to go and take the shingle roofing off to try and reduce it's vulnerability (with DSE command centre approval apparently) and they didn't even land, they were too late.
It's location was part of it's problem.
Most of the cattlemen built their huts in protected locations - saddles, hollows etc. They are often in green pockets even when all around them is dry. Doesn't mean they don't get burnt but it's amazing how many have survived as long as they have through other fires.
This one was built to look spectacular for a movie but it's location was unprotected from the elements including fire.
It's only value was in tourism. And as long as the tourists were there they weren't bugging me in the better parts of the high country.
