Father in Law is looking at buying an Adventure off road camper for a tray back - hasnt got the ute yet...will be a 4b version of course......What are they like? Are there other types out there the same that are good.......?
He looked at the Heaslip and didnt like having to climb up onto the bed so climbing is preferably a no no........
also with the A.O.Roaders what happens if its raining - can you pull the bed out after the tent part is pulled out or does the bed have to be pulled out first???
Any hints.......cheers guys......

Hi
Laura,
Adventure are a local
Adelaide company that have been around for many years now and have a great reputation for building quality stuff.
I'm guessing this is what your F-I-L is looking for:
http://www.adventurecampers.com.au/camper_trailer_traytop.htm
They are some unique features - the swing down fridge overcomes the access problem (given the height of the vehicle tray), and the bed is same level as the one at home - don't have to climb down off the roof like many of the others. the legs slide into the sides, so are more stable than others.
If it rains......you get wet :-))) But seriously, it has two big lift up side doors which provide good shelter (same as
mine) just by opening them.
If I wasn't so tight with the $$$, I was going to buy one, but elected to make my own in the end.
Cheers
phil

I have their DVD which features the trailers and the tray back camper.
They are a
well-built unit with features that use the space
well. They seem easy to setup with gas strut assistance for the heavier components. The main thing is easy access to storage and kitchen areas, which is ever more important as our knees and back get older.
As far as setting up in the rain goes....The marine-ply underside of the bed base would probably get wet while you pulled it out prior to unfolding it but once you have the bedcase unfolded, the tent protects the bed itself as it is part of that assembly. This is the impression i got from seeing in the video.... anyway, it would be a good question to ask the salesman when your FIL goes to have a look.
If i had the money i would buy an Adventure Trailer myself. The quality of the finish and ruggedness is worth it. IMO
