I read on a forum page that instead of forgetting your trip to the high country this season, you can contact some farmers, elderly or disadvantaged folk down there and lend a hand.
What a fantastic idea. I am sure some farmers & others would be only too pleased to receive such help, fencing clearing fallen timber etc. etc. in exchange to allowing travellers a couple of nights camping on their property.
Is anyone down that way able to help by putting 4WD'ers in contact with people that need help. Otherwise the SES or Salvation army could also be a good contact point.

It would be wonderful if something positive came from this.
Just MHO.

"With these sort of fires, the biggest thing that kills the community is lack of income from tourists. Come and spend you money locally.

Come anyway and drop into a few farms along the way and learn how to do a bit of fencing and helping out. I'm sure there would hardly be a farmer out there that would knock back some "free" labour for the ability of you to be able to pitch a tent on their paddocks and give the kids a "Farm Stay" holiday".
