Sad news that
Craig's Hut has burnt in the bushfires. This is a classic destination with one of the best
views in Australia.
Hope the hut is rebuilt

not sure i agree that it should be rebuilt ... wasn't it just built as a prop for a movie & then left there? I reckon the view will be just as good without a fake hut in the way!! (& i do agree that its a great view by the way)

If the community and the local council have anything to do with it, the hut will be re-built.
The hut was originally only built as a movie prop, and was going to be pulled down after that, but was left. In 1993 CFA 4wd Club in association with
Mansfield Alpine 4wd Club restored the hut as it was deteriorating in condition.
Alot of the timber that was used to build/restore the hut with, was
well over 100 years old.
Unfortunately, the rebuild may not be quite so easy, due to political overtones, but thems the breaks.
If the hut is rebuilt to look exactly as it did before the fire, great, but the fact that the hut is gone, is not going to stop people going to this gorgeous place - its also not going to stop the progression in making the place more friendly to visitors.
