Evening all,
Has anyone replaced their aux
tank (30 ltr) on a 05 GU 4.2 with a Long
Ranger TR59 (145ltr aux replacement)?
If so any probs with the setup of fuel between tanks (transfer to the main),weight distribution when fully loaded, the affect on stability and RTA issues (Approvals if required re: weight.)
From the pics on the web site no bash plate is included. Can the unit handle the occasional knock and constant vibration of corrugations?
Cheers
And thanks

I think you might be a bit mixed up there champ...?
The Patrol has 2 tanks: main is 95 litre and sub is about 35 litre.
You can get aftermarket tanks of 145 litre and around 70 to 80 litre respectively (depending on which manufacturer you go to).
So, you can't replace a 30 litre
tank with a 145 litre
tank.
AFAIK there is no issues with the various authorities about legallity of fitting any of these aftermarket tanks.
I ran the 145 litre Long
Ranger tank in my Patrol for 210,000klm with a few "big" trips and had no worries.

Roachie,
Check Long
Ranger web site as they detail the TR59 Replacement Fuel
Tank for the aux
tank.

Dude, the main
tank gets replaced with a 145 as roachie says.
If you could fit a 145 to replace the aux, it would be sitting on the ground.

Okay, I think I've found what you're referring to. It's a printing mistake; has to be.

It actually says sub
tank holds 147 litres. Impossible!

I think you will find that they haev copied and pasted from one
tank(the one above the T59) to the T59 to save typing and forgot to change it.

their FAQ isnt confidence inspiring
TR59 -

Tank has broken mounts
A: The original body mounts have been known to collapse after a rough trip to the cape and the body had come down and was resting on the
tank.

I'm not a fan of long range tanks since
mine failed on the way back from the cape. When talking to a mechanic in
Weipa he said it's quite common for aftermarket tanks to fail.

I emailed em, and got a reply making us all out to be on drugs from a daryl...
But they failed again to take their feet out of their mouths - they still havent changed the measurements of the
tank - both are
miles different having fitted a couple to mates cars or helping fit em.
I'd
shop elsewhere.

Mate,
I have replaced both tanks and am now running a 145ltr Main and 70ltr Sub which where provided by Longranger Tanks. The vehicle is a 2006 4.2TDi Nissan Patrol Wagon. Have had no noticeable issues though I'm running extra heavy duty coil springs with 2inch lift in the rear and Poly Air Bags. The tanks are tucked up out of the way and appear to be fairly strong. I also had the same set-up on my last GU Patrol with no issues. Feel free to send me a PM if you want further details or even pictures?
For the record: the Main 95ltr
Tank is replaced with a 145ltr and the 30ltr sub is replaced with a 70ltr sub. Thus 215ltrs in total......
