Just do your trip young fella and enjoy yourself. You wont be the only person on the road, and others don't realy mind if you just camp nearby.Just be friendly to others and all well be ok.
I would love to go with you , but can't,,I have santa comitments to my grand kids.

"but can't,,I have santa comitments to my grand kids" That sounds an excuse when Wazab is talking about June. Oh well, perhaps you have shifted santa time. Month light saving perhaps.

Gday Willie of Epping

My little boy Wes put those photos in and i had not realised that they were not writ upon...All these pictures are in the Avon area just sort of North of Heyfield..We have been there a couple of times now and with those lovely people that stayed with us for the first day..George and Julie..I wouldn't go there now as the fires are in that area..We might go back in the new year and have a look if the fires are out and we are aloud.
Thats me in front of the old Nissan and Wes ,with the old Daihatsu.

Gday Ron George
I have already had a semi rude and suggestive paragraph taken out of the system, and i promised David that i would no longer put in things like that. So from here on in they will only be suggestive,,,,,a bit like the goat story.....

Hi Wazab,
If you're still worried about it there will be a few QLDers heading down that way to the national EO gathering at the same time, just keep an eye on who's going in the 'gatherings' section and get hold of them when the time gets closer.
They will branch off at Marree but at least that'll be part of your trip in company.
You never know, if you drop into the gathering someone may decide to join you for the rest of your journey.

Go for it - just let some one (or two) - such as the Police at either end and a relative know when you leave, when you arrvie and your intended route etc and it should be okay.

Wazab,
We usually travel alone. Just avoid risks. Travel at reasonable speeds to avoid vehicle damage, carry plenty of spares and the required tools. Most travellers will help but they can usually only do so much. Some tracks have notification points at police stations. If you are by yourselfves use them but do not rely on them. HF radio or satphone would be a good security blanket. If you do not have either and are thinking of going off the main track at all an emergency becon is relatively cheap. We have both as your other comms may not be operational. You just need to survive for a few days till someone comes looking. Make sure you keep your water suppies reasonable and always have plenty. Should really have 5l/day/person so for a 4 day trip between refils for 2 people 5x4x2 = 40l + 2 day provisional (another 20l). You would like to have 60L. Sounds like a lot till you are stuck somewhere for a few days.

Have a good trip.

Steve

Hi Wazab,
ran in to 2 single ladies (seperate rigs) around 4 weeks ago and I asked both of them how long had they been on the road and had they encountered any problems. 1 had been on the road around 10 months the other 18. Neither of them had any troubles, both around 50 (hope there not reading this)
Go for it,

Ian

The trip you are planning is pretty straight forward on well used roads. Security at camp sites is rarely an issue for lone travellers although if camping by yourselves worries you, just choose main stops where other groups are. Harrasment by locals can be an issue (particually on & after dole day) near some communities & is best to stay at caravan parks on these nights.
Good camp sites: Coongie lakes, Ski Beach @ Innamincka, Farina, Coward springs, Dalhousie springs, Mungerannie.

And a message for your over cautious wife: Don't listen to all the rumours. You are far more likely to be raped, bashed & robbed in the city than in outback Australia ;-)
Cheers Craig..........Have a great trip :-)
