Just wondering if anyone has experience with the engel battery charger for sla batteries.
The idea is that they raise the voltage, as sealed batteries apparentely need a higher voltage to charge.
They also regulate the current to 10 amps.
Has anyone used one and/or does this sound like a good way of charging the engel 56ah battery (no room under bonet).
The wire they supply for going to the main battery looks a little on the thin side to my eyes though.
The engel battery is a tad exy, maybe there's a better alternative (needs to be stored inside the wagon).
Thanks, Steve
ps hope this isn't too much a can of worms!!!!

Look at the Jaycar 16 amp MB3620 $189 fully auto charger for sealed and all types of batteries. Beats the hell out of battery chargers 2 times the price.
Bought a Fullriver sealed 90 amp battery for $200
Setup works great.

Hi Steve & Mish
Thank You for the call today. Just to clear up the questions asked. The Engel charger is a DC to DC 10 amp charger.
This item has its uses but at 10 amps will require 4 to 7 hours drive time per day to keep up with a fridge.
Best to buy a 100 a/h AGM and wire it up with a Redarc, sidewinder or ABR controller. There are also piranha, tjm, arb and others that do similar battery isolation.
Regards
Derek.

This is one occasion I would agree that the battery controllers sold by 4WD shops are a better option. I have seen these in
camping shops and the instructions that come with them indicate that the output voltage is only 13.8 V. This is insufficient to recharge batteries in the time they state. The alternator should put out a little more than this through a dual battery controller if heavy enough wiring is employed.
