Footloose

I doubt the people are allowed in the, that's why it still can be seen from the sky..

If they let those youngins from Fraser island out there... then that's the last we will see of it ....LOL

zoom in on Google earth down to 580m above and you can see a two wheel track coming down at about 1 quarter down the top RH side

The sign used to be on the main road

Thanks Richard. I've been along the main drag a time or three over the last 30 years and didn't know it was there. I always said that there's more stuff that I don't know about than stuff I do :))

G'day Guys

Does anyone know who and when did it. Leaves crop circles for dead. It would be pretty easy with a GPS, but if it was done before GPS days it would have been a good effort.

Hi Footy
I was out there many moons ago- doing a Comms. exersise with the Army Signal Corps. It was the early days of micro-wave - and that area was nice & flat to set up the dishes.
We actually 'vandalised' the site by carving our Unit Number in the logo (but only about 6" high).
It should be accessible with a bit of no-road driving!!

Hi Signman. Next time I'm out that way I'll take a look.
Is that why they called you sign man ? :))))

The other thing to consider Footie is that you may notbe able to see the sign from the ground.

Out on the Mundi Mundi Plain at Eldee Station there is a sculpture in the ground called "Eldee Man". I have been there a few times and you can see nothing from the ground.

Eldee Man was drawn on paper by a local artist (Peter Anderson) and then carved into the ground by his brother who is a surveyor. He used traditional tools (no GPS).

Duncs, yes there's that . I expect that even if you're there, it takes a bit of observation and imagination to "see" much.
The Eldee man is interesting. Was that the one where it is said to have appeared "overnight"? The one where there was some kerfuffle with the "traditional owners?"

Footie,

Not aware of any kerfuffle. It is on leasehold land operated by private owners and I believe they gave full permission for the Artwork.

For it to appear overnight would be a little hard to believe. First off he had to measure and peg it using a theodolite and big hammer. Then he had to get the dozer in and drive around for a few days to put it in.

Duncs,
My apologies I was thinking of the Maree man...about which I also know little.
Is this Eldee Man visible in Google earth ?

I'm not sure about Google Earth.

If it is visible you would look just north of Silverton, in the vicinity of 31.35S 141.06E.

Don't have Earth on this puter so I can't check.
