Pick up our new GU Patrol next week, and in early January will be fitting it out. Have always told myself i would go for the OME suspension upgrade next 4wd but I spoke to Iron man suspension today and was quite suprised in the difference in price (almost half) and was wondering if anyone has had experience with Iron Man or even better, both.
Without starting any wars between suspension types, any first hand opinions appreciated.

Cheers

I'm a fan - have the Ironman setup in the Patrol - am very happy. Their service and product are great in my opinion. Not saying anymore though as I left my flame suit at home LOL!

just found the ride was sloppy and the articulation was not brilliant, i think they are quite stiff! Also the shocks we average on the corrugations. the set up i have, i love it, and would recommend to anyone!

i did tell them it was not what i was looking for. the suspesion is fine, there was no manufacturing faults, i just think that i found a much better product in the setup i have now. i would say they are more of a light duty steup, and just wasn't for me, i do very very little on-road driving, and my supspension cops it hard with the state of the gravel and rock roads here in the pilbara. In saying this, the setup that they offer may be what you are looking for and may suit the type of driving that you plan to do. hope this healps mate. there are so many product on the market and i know how hard it was to make the decision, i guess i was lucky to find one that suited what i wanted 2nd time round!!

"just found the ride was sloppy and the articulation was not brilliant"
would suggest incorrect items for the job, basics...

"I simply said i felt it couldnt handle my recreational activities"
so that would mean its not upto it - or the incorrect suspension.

Several members of our club have tried Iron Man suspension in the past & had nothing but trouble. Needless to say no one I know runs it now. Warrenty was excellent, they just kept replacing it but got sick of the lack of reliability. A shock that lets go in central Oz is a liability no one needs. For light duty they may have been OK but on High Country & outback runs in their cases they weren't up to the job. I will say that these shocks were fitted a few years ago & I have no idea of the current build quality or performance.

heheheh! I was waiting for you to find this thread :-)

Craig,

As I understand it there was issues with the quality of Ironman gear a while back. They acknowledged this and spent considerable money, time and effort to re-design their gear and change manufacturers. I think you will find that their gear is now of good quality. Unfortunately (and in many respects understandably) their reputation will continue to suffer from peoples earlier experiences.

In the end you have to weigh up the $$ v's Name v's quality. I found found Ironman gear to be great. I have no problem stating this, and also have no issue with people who disagree!

For the record though, I had an ARB strut fail on a Pathfinder - do i bucket their gear now?? No, but it did make me look at alternatives with the Patrol. Would I buy ARB again, yes, if they were competitive on price.

Certainly not here to condem or justify Moggs suspension choice (good or bad) but would be remiss of me not to mention the experiences in our club so that ingo can make an imformed decission based not just on the salesmans promises & purchase price.
Cheers Craig.......

love my Koni's.

With suspension you have to look beyond purchase price, for reliability and quality.
The most important thing is Matched shocks and springs for your cars weight, also your use, budget etc.

Fully setup your rig, weigh it then give that info to the store selling your suspension. they will work out what rate springs and shocks will suit your application. No use buying it now, and then fitting a winch and bar, dual batteries, etc etc in 4mths time, or you will have to buy again.

I know the dude at Ironman, and he bet his hair on his gear being reliable, and good quality.. I'd give their gear a go without hesitation as I trust his word.

I got the Konis with a package deal with some other gear I needed from bloke bought my GQ.

FWIW, I've run with different lifts, from stock, to 7inch lift and back to 4inch.
Konis (GQ and GU)
TJM Series 2000
Ranchos S H I T
and OME LTR's.

the GU has 3inch and is perfect.

Bruce, it lookss like it must have taken a few minutes for the wheel flexibility and articulation to reach the ground there mate. Must say the GU looks great though. Got a bit of Ironman stuff here and is reliable.

could not belive the amount of opions about your proposed set up.
all set ups have their merrits and i think your will be happay with what ever you go with.
i looked at arb, tjm, ome, peddes and the only thing i can suggest is to go to a spring manufacture and or look at the BRIS31 or TV31sydney 4x4 web site. i hate paying for products if i don't have to. but when we get wraped up in packages for thousands to later on find out that a couple of coils springs and some good quality shocks will do what you want for a fraction of the price can be a victory for your pocket.

Put the ironman kit on my Navara in January this year then did 42,000 km in 7 months around Oz. This included Googs Track, the Anne Beadell, Cape Leveque, Kimberley to Kalumbaru and Mitchell, Canning, Talawana, Gary Hwy, Gunbarrel Hwy and the Tanami. Didn't miss a beat and still going well. Yep, I'm happy with them.
