Hello all,
Have read a few threads on the triton 2.8 intercooled and consensus seems pretty good. I'm pretty keen on getting one and have driven a mates on a few occasions. Only concern is whether it's up to the ask of towing an 1100 kg camper trailer. I really it will be far from a rocket ship with this behind it, just hoping to get some feedback from those that have towed with them before. Looking forward to your thoughts
Ben

This model has about 94 Kilowatts and 290 odd NM of torque. It should pull an 1100 kilo trailer OK.
It was not renowned for performance but a couple of mates who owned them said they held on
well when towing.
I have the new ML version and it is a real goer, 118Kilowatts and about 350NM. I tow a 2 tonne van with it and it handles it really
well.

I have the same 2.8l intercooled turbo diesel engine in my pajero.
Regurlay tow a CT (800kg) and used to tow a 14' van for my father (1000kg?).
The triton would weight 200kg less to start with, so should be better.
No, they are not highly powerful machines, but if you are used to driving and using the torque instrad of hp, they go
well.
Gearing in these is reasonably low. 2700/2800 rpm at 100k, but they will sit on 90km/hr all day and you may be down to 4th (80k) for the occasional
hill. Will sit on 80k and 2300 rpm quite
well in 4th on hills quite
well.
Not a lot of power above 100km/hr for overtaking.
Heaviest load I have towed is a trailer sailor of about 2.2t. Just uses one gear lower again.
Mitsu put in a heavier gearbox and diff on the 2.8 diesel and 3.5 petrol for the extra torque and it seems to handle it
well. 275,000k now on the original engine and gearbox.
Watch the fuel filters, block up quickly with dirty fuel and you loose power noticeably.

Ive had a 2.8 TD triton and it towed a 1300 caravan with no hassels, and a mate used it for towing a car trailer , again no hassels . ITtowed better than his Hilux which was 3ltr Td

Thanks a heap for the replies. I haven't heard a bad word of someone who has owned one. Now to find one for the right price.
