Sh1t - they shouldn't have had people standing within 100 feet of that snatch - somebody could've been chopped in half....

The only thing that surprises me here is the comments

I don't believe you are all surprised, I have seen just as bad if not even worse on most of my trips away. Seems most people thought Russell Coight was for real LOL

Doesn't surprise me with the average Jo 4wder but with a tour operator yes, it does surprise me as these guy's should know what they are doing. What if Com Care saw this? I'm sure they would have some interesting views on this??????

Yes I intend to contact them. A delicate situation but they certainly should be trained well enough to see the many hazards present in that scenario, and how poorly the risks were controlled in that case.

David,

Well done for contacting them and yes, it will be a delicate situation. I'm guessing the business owner would be interested as this really doesn't put his business in a good light and I'm sure he would want to do something about it. Well, you would think/hope so. Good luck when you contact him, I would be interested to hear what he says.........

You would think after it came off once, you can see the hook at the back of the bus on the ground, they would get everybody out of there instead you have a guy walking down the road. Even my 12 year old saw how dumb this was.

Have fun

Teabag

Hand over my mouth the hole time.
Check out the angle on the front wheels.
There are many places on that track that do not have an embankment to stop him.
A tragedy in the making.

I have never seen a winch cable break before. This one broke with little or none of the recoil that people always talk about, e.g. comments like "if that cable breaks it will cut you in half". It stands to reason because the winch cable stores very little energy because it does not stretch much, unlike a snatch strap. I have seen snatch straps break and cause damage to windows and panels.

Has anybody else seen winch cables break before? Having just watched this video I am forming the view that the dangerous recoil from a snapped winch cable is just a myth.

Yes, I've seen a winch cable break.

It took the roof off the fire engine that was bogged.

The fiery behind the wheel, who ducked, had a very white face, but I gather his rear end was another colour seconds later.

Yes, extreme tension involved in this case (a truck bogged to the chassis) but the cable snapped at the winch end, not a hook failing.

Yes, I've seen several break over the years and trust me it's no myth. The worst of them was the hook fly about 30m and go through a shed (both walls) with the cable coming back and whip lashing the vehicle (made a mess of the side duco). If it was a person, I would guess they wouldn't be with us today. Been very lucky in the several I've seen break that nobody was injured and this is due to safety precautions taken. Not like this short video shows.....

yeah it amazes me, whats the winch for? decoration ? sheez, some elbow grease with a shovel, use the winch properly and shes straight out.

Not to mention the bystanders in reach of the cable radius, and the suzi driving straight past......

BUT - you've gotta chuckle at the driver trying to get back in when she's listed over on its side LOL...
