If you didnt know already, xmas is coming around again and will soon be upon us
thinking of buying a navigator for swmnbo..so she doesnt forget where home is...of late er all year she is a tourist..never home......
need info...not whats the best one,
Let me know what you have and what features it can offer from those below:
must have voice instructions of course (so i can hear it over her)
which have alarms for red-light cameras...
Blue tooth for mobile phone would be nice
Cost of updates
Any offer voice dialing?
out put for ozzie explorer such as UTM corordinates if this is at all possible
any other features that are really good

perhaps Richard, you could buy her a bug zapper,or a map of Australia so that she can plot where she has been and where you are likely to take her on future trips.....these are some of the presents I have been so lucky to receive from 'Roachie'.
Merry Christmas

Of course you know what one i would suggest don't you.
www.ja-gps.com.au/garmin_quest_1.html
But if don't need the goodies that Quest has maybe this one
www.ja-gps.com.au/garmin_c510.aspx
The StreetPilot C510 is for Mr and Mrs Everyday. The operation is simple, and the price is right to begin saving fuel and frustration. Brilliant sound form twin speakers. Complete in-car kit, and built-in battery, with Australian mapping pre-loaded.
or maybe one of these www.ja-gps.com.au/garmin_in-car.html

Can you turn off some of the alarms if you don't want them ie Red light camera on the Garmin .?
I have a little Uniden speed camera / school zone / redlight warning thingie , and all the alarms go off constantly . I wish I could turn the red light camera one off , but I am too stupid to figure out how or maybe it is not possible .
The way it is now , I think I will only ever use it on country trips .
Cheers ,
Willie .

Hi Kirsten
I bought the Nuvi 660...it went back the following day. Great unit in everyway bar 1.
Try and plan your itinery with the
places you want to go and then get the unit to determin the destination.
If you just want to go from A to B great. If you want to go from A to B via C..great. BUT.... try and go from A to B via c,d,e and it cant do it. For $1100 thats a big omision on Garmins part.
Thats why I am going to buy the TomTom 910. You can plan all the
places you want to go, in any order you want to do it.

No question nudie.
A TomTom.
So simple you don't need the manual.
Easier to use than programming the timer on the video recorder. Has all the features you want and so many more.
I once was a sceptic but I'm a convert now.

Even I can use Tom Tom. but another suggestion, you could get your long suffering wife a younger husband. At least she could play with it longer, it would be more reliable and not go off shootin n fishn and stuff all the time.

Hi Peter
One of the advantages of TomTom is that it runs on a sort of Linux platform so people can write applications and addins for it.
You don't get that with any of the others as far as I know.
So far a mate of
mine has worked out how to play compressed DVD's on it, as
well as an MP3 player add in for it.
The bluetooth interaction with a phone is a big plus - unless you leave the tomtom on in the car and walk into the house and it answers the phone for you :)
As for UTM I'm not sure, and update cost - I'm pretty sure the Version 5 users are getting the Aust Vers 6 map update for free, someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Apparently there's been a delay with the CD mail out but it's not far off.
I've already got Vers 6 on my PDA and there are some other good improvements - like the ability to enter lat/long for destination which wasn't in 5. I haven't looked at UTM.

Its a rare beast which only uses 800watts which my invertor can handle.

Totally impulse purchase - its a hard item to find.
Xmas
camp was going to be within range of
Dargo pub for new year and
it wouldn't hurt to spruce up , but I guess that idea has gone up in smoke ?
(not the pub-
well last time I checked anyway)
