Second that! Can't imagine going any other way. The impost of higher fuel costs would surely be negated by the wide open spaces and considerably less traffic. That equates to less stress.

I am going the other way next month towing a furniture trailer (Mel-Tsv)

Could you tell me if the roads that way are reasonably flat????

2 litres of throbbing 4 cyl motor and 1.5-1.8 tonne of trailer...........

Very flat apart from between Roma and Rolleston and around Dubbo, which are really not much more than large rolling hills.

I know Dubbo area so if Rolleston isn't much worse I should be OK....

You'll be OK. It sure beats the over-populated routes closer to the coast. Just bear in mind, if ankle-biters are a factor, it's a long way between the Macs and Jacks! Could be a saving!

If you want to go a little better way when you cross the bridge at Condomine, instead of turning right and going to Miles, go left and follow until you get to Roma / Surat Road and turn right to Roma, good road, narrow but quiet.had to go that way in the Road Train in the Early 80s.

Try www.travelmate.com.au go to the maps page and put in your info.

Most of what you are asking will be answered there. The answers you don't get there, like fuel prices, you can get from EO.

My take on that sort of stuff is if you want to go there you have to pay for the fuel. It may be expensive but what choice do you have.

Then again I live in the bush and not many people are paying more for fuel than I do every week.

Go for it and enjoy the ride.
