Hi all, We are looking at camping in the Otways during the Xmas break and want to know some good camping areas to stay with a bit of fishing nearby. I did a search and Bonz suggested doing the Fork Paddocks track, but someone did mention it was closed then. Is this track open now or still shut, I think I have driven there about 4 years ago on my way to Hopetoun Falls, Are there any other great tracks to drive on?

Thanks

Mate, have camped at Dandos down South of Colac, out of Forrest and that was comfortable enough. Enviroloos and the like. Have also camped along Noonday Track and saw little traffic. Be different this year I expect though.

The Noonday Track is a testing one with some holes that have had water and sticky mud in the past. Deep ruts too. Member Glenn got stuck over a root at the top of a steep rise where a rut changed it's track without warning. Had to snatch him backwards downhill - steeply. Interesting recovery.

The track you mention, is that the one Bonz got bogged on? He needed a hefty tractor to get him out. Loves MUD does that guy. LOL

The Otways doesn't seem to have many long tracks

Fork Paddock track is closed now, considered too extreme for the DSE people in their Toyota's. I got stuck down the bottom of Marriners Ridge track, behind Apollo Bay.

I have camped at Glen Aire at the (or near) the mouth of Aire River about 15km's south of Lavers Hill - really nice and quiet there at least it was last time i was there. Turn off is S38 45 50.5 E143 28 22.4

thats the spot I have been going for near 20yrs every xmas and many other times, mate of mine has been going there all his life from a wee youngster. Its a regular settlement around xmas with regulars, and great quiet spot aside from a few days a year (like aust day weekend).
