Hi No 1.
My kids (now 23 and 27) used to play car cricket regularly when travelling between the Hawkesbury River where I lived and worked and the Brisbane area where my Mum and Dad lived.

the rules as I recall are fairly simple.

Teams if you want or individual players.

to score runs - only vehicles coming towards you can be used. ordinary cars score 1 run. Motorcycles score 2. trucks /semi's score 4 runs and police/ambo's etc with lights flashing score 6 runs. RED CAR MEANS YOU ARE OUT.

Back then we also had another rule - TELSTRA vehicles with more than 1 person scored an instant 20 runs.

really keeps the kids looking out the window instead of being cranky or whatever and keeps the "happy season"mood doing

We also used to count windmills - they did not even have to be working.

Enjoy the trip

ahhh car criket......great fun,
1 Choose a batter
2 nominate stuff for "runs" Eg truck = 1 run
car towing caravan = 4 runs
coach = 6 runs
disco on side of the road = out next batter

3 Tally runs after an hour to find a winner

Make your own rules but thats the idea above, my family has had lots of laughs playing this on on trips

Cheers Stefan

We always played by adding up the final number of the passing car's number plate, with a Zero meaning OUT. Good mental arithmetic.

Try Travel Bingo.
Depending on the ages of the children, make up list of things that they have to spot on the way e.g. a 60 speed limit sign, a bus, a girl on a pushbike, a bridge, a red flower, gum tree, giveway sign etc etc. If the children arent reading well yet then print pictures of these things or cut them out of magazines etc.
They then just cross them off their list as they spot them. The first one to check off everything on their list wins. You can get a few extra minutes of peace and quiet in the car by adding something a bit trickier to the list like a three legged dog or clown on a unicycle or something!
