Hi all, I am going to change the fuel filter on my 2.8 GU tomorrow, this may sound stupid but is there any special things I should be aware of? as I have never owned a diesel before so I just wanted to check.....EG priming afterwards. I have changed hundreds of filters on petrol cars just never a oil burner. Please be kind with your responces as I am sure some will be slapping their heads and thinking its just a fuel filter for crist sakes.

Thanks Stefan

Hi Stefan

To make things easy, fill the new filter with diesel before fitting, couple pumps on

hand pump and should be sweet.

Cheers Axle.

And be prepared for it to run like a hairy goat and blow lots of smoke for a bit when you start it up. Give it a minute or two and it will settle down.

When priming, I disconnect the fuel line that goes to the motor and pump the primer until fuel comes out the hook it all back up again. It seems to prime easier this way and you know for certain that fuel has got that far at least.

Rubber gloves are a good idea too as you will get fuel everywhere taking the old filter off, no matter how careful you are. The disposable ones work, but tend to tear on a that hose clamp you never knew was there.

A cheap metal strap type oil filter wrench can also help when taking the old one off and tightening the new one when your hands are covered in fuel.

Have fun.

Bloody hell what was I worried about? 10 mins done.....remove, install, prime, start first go....too easy. Thanks again all who replied as I combined the responses and it worked a treat. Thats why I love this forum you get the experience from so many and that makes it easy for some one who hasn't done a paticular job before.

Cheers Stefan
