Fuel Consumption Manual vs Automatic

I am considering updating my NG 3.0litre Pajero LWB (manual) to a 1999 NL 3.5litre Escape - 4 speed automatic.
What I am finding difficult to find out is :
1. Power loss from an automatic compared to a manual
2. Fuel consumption of the SOHC 3.5l Automatic - especially compared to the manual.
My Ng averages 14litres per 100klms in the city and some of the figures quoted for example auto Jackeroos of 22litres per 100klms are scary.
I live on the Central Coast and go to our property at
Bathurst about once a month - light 4wd work - unless it rains !! - rarely tow a trailer.
