Challenger one
Help again please, I have just drained the auto in my 02 Challenger and only got 4.5 litres instead of 8.5 which is the stated capacity why? Of course I didnt realise until I had already put 8 litres in. I realised I had not got all that much out as I drained into a huge tub and it was only when I pulled
the tub out from under that I saw only little oil in it.
Thanks once again John

When you drain an auto you only get the oil out of the pan.The torque convertor holds at least 4 litres of oil.

Thanks everyone I did realise I would not get it all out but when I asked at the dealers for a quote for an oilchange on the auto they said they just pull the drain plug and that they then replace the oil and charge for 8.5 litres that is what made me think that it should take that amount maybe they were telling lies? Anyhow I found online manual and it stated approx 5.5 litres for normal change.
At least it's only four more days to holidays
Thanks all
John

The torque converter and cooler hold the rest.If you have not started the car and driven it you can remove the rest by undoing the cooler union and then getting an accomplice to start the car long enough for the transmission pump to fill a 1 litre container and repeat until you have removed the desired amount..
This is at your own risk of course. its probably better to drain out the excess fluid and then drive it for as long as you feel prudent and change again.
This is normal for autos and AFAIK when you have a service they usually do not flush the converter, so its normal just to change half the oil and usually the filter.

Yeah mate most of it is held in the Toque converter (Thirsty buggers they are). You can do a full Back yard Fluid flush buy dropping the Oil cooler lines into a marked bucket and starting the engine and adding new fluid throe the dipstick tube at the same rate it is pumped out the transmission.
But if you fall more than a litre behind the tranny Pump output shut it down and play cache up
If your auto doesn’t have a drain plug then you can pump the excess oil out the same way
Cheers.

the torque converter holds a lot of oil thats where it will be. unless the torque converter(trans removal) is removed you will not get all the trans fluid out.
Manuals usually state liquid figures baced on a new (completely dry) trans.
Some manuals will tell you the true figures for just a service but do not rely on liquid capacity's as always being gospel.
just drain 4 ltrs out & you will be fine .DO NOT RUN VEHICLE WITH EXCCISIVE OIL IN TRANS YOU WILL BLOW A SEAL.
in future always check oil level as you are filling.
