Hi all, Jason from Adelaide here.

I had been planning to do the Victorian High Country this January ( Marysville to Omeo ). I am VERY sorry that it has mostly gone up in smoke.

Just wondering if any of you could suggest a 400 - 600 k trip that is not Desert orientated.

Victoria is a day away and so is NSW. I am after something that is medium level with some harder stuff thrown in for good measure.

Thanks and Merry Christmas to all!!

Jason - keep your booking at Marysville if you have one.

I can guarantee that there are more tracks with more difficulty between there and Melbourne than in the "eastern High Country". The day trips loop from there to
Mansfield in the North and Mt Dissapointment to the west will keep you occupied all
holidays.

We have had to cancel our trip to Dargo area , because that is burnt and all access
is closed off still today.

We will be located in Yarck some 30km from Marysville over Xmas and can help out a bit if you end up this way, we have had other South Aussies do this in the past.

Robin, while you are in Yarck, may I suggest you make a point of going to the
Ruffy Store in the Highlands behind Yarck. Great store for a coffee or light meal and a fascinating area to drive around. It's very different with large granite outcrops and the like. Love the area and suggest anyone in the vacinity to have a look.

Cheers and merry xmas.

Hi Gu

Hey don't tell anybody about that lost plateau between Yea Seymour and Euroa. I nearly brought that store once when it was a full shop, but the due diligence didn't stack up.
We got the most delightful soy cappicino's there a few weeks ago and there is significant exploring to do at the southern end.

Thankyou Robin,

Will you be on VKS 737 while you are there by any chance?

Hi Jason

Won't be on VKS737 over this Xmas holiday.
Only mobile 0429 963122

If it works out that you go to Marysville I suggest two Rooftop maps
that are widely available locally.

"Marysville-Lake Eildon adventure map " which covers the whole area.

"Toolangi-Black Range" forest activities map, this last map
is more detailed with contours, and shows literally hundreds
of Km's of forest roads from mild to wild from Marysville to Yarck.

We will be around doing day trips.

Cheers Robin.

It is up in the air at the moment but I will let you know what the outcome will be. The decision is only partly mine.

Taken down those map names.

Thanks Again

A big part of the high country that hasn`t been burnt (yet, and with fingers cross it won`t) is the area around Corryong.
Have a look in the treknotes at the Corryong to Omeo trip.
Site Link

I haven`t done the trip myself but have camped at Wheelers creek hut and Paddy Joy camping area quite a few times. Most tracks would be easy to medium, with some hard ones thrown in (around Mt Pinnabar) and a couple of water crossing as well as you get closer to Tom Groggin.

Cheers.

Cheers Darren,

Just got to the link and saw the other link to the Mansfield to Harrietville. These two look just the ticket.

Cheers

Yep, definately closed. We had planned to do the Trek from Mansfeild to Dargo and up to Harrietville over christmas, but like everyone else we have had to cancel due to the fires, DAMN IT. That trip might have to wait until Easter.

IM thinking that lots of tracks and areas wont be open by then either...

Track clearing, makign sure theres no risk of falling trees, which will mean some haev to be cut down, which means the greens will scream, even though 1 tree is worth more than a family according to their logic, Im changing my plans until after seasonal closures, maybe the June weekend at earliest.

I am going over to Healesville in March 07 for my Fiance's Cousion's Wedding. They, the cousins, own there. They are nutter 4x4'ers and a blast to go out with. It will be intersting to see what tracks will be cleared by then.
