Hi Dirty, I'm going to put up a Trip Gathering (2nd Jan) to go and see the Cherry Venture before they take it off the beach in Feb - a last pilgrimage. Plan is to go up the Cooloola Way to Harry's Hut, then cross onto the Bore/Pettigrews track and onto Teewah Beach, then to the Cherry Venture and back to Noosa via the beach. I've penciled this day in for Sunday 21st Jan, but I won't be going up there before then, sorry.
Andrew

Going further up the Cooloola Way to a crossover track however, It may be a locked gate, then we'll continue up to Rainbow Beach Road to Pettigrews Rd.

I know the road. It's not locked, but they have made the very easy crossing of the headwater into an impossible one (really, there's a very big log in the middle of it and no way around or over it). You also have to go past a no entry sign, very, very sad, there was once some great driving (not difficult) in that area...

I'll assume you know that Harry's Hut is at the end of a dead end road, and that you have to come back out around 11 kms to get back on the Cooloola Way, Still worth the drive, Harry's Hut is sensational, have spent many weeks there and thereabouts.

Cheers

Hi Dave, Bugger! I've not done that stretch and was hoping for something different, I guess I'll be giving it a big miss (Hmph!) and going up to Rainbow Beach Road via Cooloola Way. Here's hoping that Pettigrews hasn't been 'touched'. I've planned to stop at Harry's Hut for morning tea, I know we have to drive back out again, but worth the drive :o)

Why are they removing the Cherry Venture? Is it falling apart? I was there 99/00 New Year hols and could not believe the amount of grafiti on it. Great trip though

There's not too much left of it now and it's been deemed tooooo dangerous to the public - hence removal. There'll be a plaque there instead:- "here was the Cherry Venture" LOL.

The Cherry Venture is now just a pile of rusty scrap, it's not even recognisable as a ship. They're removing it because there is asbestos in amongst it.
