Have people doing long trips around Australia been able to obtain the Satellite Phone Subsidy without problems?
Did you just say that you were travelling for x days per year?
Anyone you recommend using to buy the phone? (eg 9505A kit)
I am looking at TR Telecom - $2365 for phone on $30/m plan
Planning a trip and wish to obtain a sat phone, likely we (partner) will be working in remote areas during the 6-9 month trip. I am located in the hunter region NSW

Hi marq,
It would be worthwhile doing a search on this subject, heaps of info available.
I was looking at this a while ago, waited a bit too long and found that the subsidy had gone down......know not what it is at now.
Will be interested to see what transpires in this thread tho'
Cheers
Michael

Hi marq,
I haven't sold a sat phone for a while now, but it was up to the customer (You) to show that you were away for a minimum of 90 days without normal mobile phone coverage.
Most people that did purchase them from us were truckies working in the remote parts of SA and the NT where there was no phone coverage at all, so they had no problems getting the subsidy.

Marq,
You now need to demonstrate remote use over an extended period of time and, a good reason to qualify for the subsidy.
They appear to be getting a lot more selective with the subsidy.
I'm fortunate in that I deal with Telsta and they loan me a phone in return for remote testing feedback
Give it a go.

Kim

Marq,
I bought the same phone from TRT, they quoted me the same price 2 years ago, they matched Telstra's $1,995, they were keen to bargain.
I'm on their
suspension plan, costs just under $20 a month and includes $10 calls. Be aware you cant call 1800, 1300, 131 type numbers with TRT, however anyone I'm likely to call does have a regular phone as
well, not a problem really.
As far as the subsidy goes, pull out a map, find
places 100km a mobile tower, put that on the form and your in, oh and the time you say youll be away.
