Well I'd no sooner asked a few questions (post 40516) than the newspapers hijacked my thoughts.

Another year has come and gone
We've all enjoyed it here
We've posted and replied to all
If they be far or near

And we've agreed and disagreed
We've cursed and then we've smiled
We've scratched our heads
We've surfed the net
And waited for a while

We've learned a bit and said a bit
And posted late at night
We've read it all next morning
My goodness what a fright.

Its like a giant campfire
Where all can have their say
And get up in the morning
To face a brand new day

And so to seasons greetings
Stay safe and have a ball
Don't eat too many goodies
And dont you drink it all

Its Xmas time again it seems
Please dont drink and drive
Be careful with the speed my friend

We want you back alive.

Hi Footloose,

Surely you created that a while ago and waited for the opportunity to let it loose.

It's just too good to be done in such a short time.

Thanks

Slightly OT for your post but looking at our consumption of resources, I got a tissue today and realised it was 50% bigger than a normal tissue. I only needed to wipe a small nose so a regular size one will do so it was a waste. I asked the wife if she paid more and she said no. So my theory is now that to increase consumption, they give you a box the same size with larger sheets and less sheets so you are forced to go through the box faster and are back buying more. I hate this idea and the whole mentality which goes with it. They even market them as beneficial to the user.

Sure we should look at alternative energy sources . But most of the article is unscientific , alarmist rubbush ; a timely reminder that the newspaper journalistic standards is at an all time low .

I hardly think that a scientist of such wide experience as Tim Flannery can be described as "unscientific"

Rotord, Phil...
Tim Flannery may be a scientist of wide experience but I've never heard of him... On just reading the article, it IS unscientific and alarmist, it has no data to back up any of it's claims, just looks to me like another load of dribble from a pro-green reporter with a vested interest (his shares in this public company).

Flannery is the director of the South Australian Museum, and a very well known author of many books about environmental issues. If the article you read was in the Fairfax press it is the same as I read and I did not find it any more than very much to the point of accepted science.
I am amazed that there is someone who has never heard of him.

Read the article Phil, SMH and it reads like their usual fluff.

I'm not saying he's full of it, just never heard of him and his article seems very flimsy.

Hello PHIL

Tim Flannery is well known in environmental circles as a high priest of the global warming faith . He has no standing whatever in the climatology or meteorology disciplines and you are incorrect to claim that his views are accepted science .

If you wish to rebut my statements on Flannery , please refer me to any scientific paper on climate that he has produced for review by his peers .

The system of generating electricity with hot rocks is a reality. I saw how it worked just near Innamincka last year. I was even that impressed that I bought shares in the company. I can't work out why there has not been more talk of it with other sources of energy running out and becoming costly. The company is Geodynamics that are doing the drilling, etc near Innamincka. Will be interesting to see what happens. Someday I might make a fortune out of the shares I bought!!!!!
