For those of us old enough to remember the Austin Champ (Mil Spec), they were able to do that and more straight off the showroom floor.
Unfortunately they were so bloody complicated to work on that they spent more time in the workshop than on the road.
It wasn't that they were any more unreliable than other vehicles, it was that every item on the motor was totally sealed in housings etc, even the plug leads ran through waterproof braided hoses screwed into the distributor cap and also screwed into the plug holes in the head. Special spark plugs were needed, similar to aircraft plugs and about twice as dear.
Motor was by Rolls Royce, 5 speed gear box with an extra low 1st, no reverse gear as such but fitted with a forward/reverse shifter (Rumour has it that that was included following a request from the Italian Army)
Was even better than a Hilux at lying on it's back with all 4 feet in the air if not handled properly.
Over all, miles ahead of anything else available at the time and as a confirmed LR freak it hurts to have to say that.

Cheers and Seasons Greetings to all

Disco.

The windscreen wipers was a nice touch!

I have seen an Army Landrover in deeper water, but that only came out with a crane.

I don't use PcCillin, so it wasn't detected on my machine, but I suspect that it was that "error detected" message above the video, suggesting that you should hit one of the buttons to fix the problem. The whole graphic is one and the same link.

The group in the second one defiantly is what 4wders get a bad name from as you saw it like an idiot on the first crossing the turned around and went up stream.
As per usuall some one has to pull him out and because he is a utter Idiot as you can
probably tell these thing really pssi me off.

Seen it in the cape 80s drowned at nolans brook mates pulled it out got to the northern bank and dumped all his oil just in the dirt on one of the best camp spots on that side.
When I questioned him he got very annoyed and what it had to do with me and what was he supposed to with the oil.

I suggested where it might fit.

All the best
Eric

Hi Eric,
Yeah, that second video got up my nose. It was posted on another forum - the guys tried to give ARB a pasting because their strap was hard to put in the hitch when it was 6 feet under water. Bunch of turkeys - but I guess we were all young and stupid once.

There was no water in the oil on this one and it still driving around today with no dramas.
