HELP: We have sold up and going on the road indefinitely but having trouble finding insurance for our contents within the caravan eg, laptop, generator, all our worldly possessions. Can anyone help? surely we can't be the first to do this!!! We can get cover up to $1,500 but this totally inadequate. We will only have a postal address not residential. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks KEMAB

Have you tried CIL, (caravan industry leaders).
1800 112 481
We found them the best deal for our camper etc, but we are not on the road as you are planning, unfortuneatly!

Cheers Pesty

We went through this saga a couple of years back. There is only two companies in Australia that will insure your van while you are living in it eg, more than three months,CIL and complete caravan insurance. API may also, but not sure on that one. QBE gave us a separate policy on our two Engles and genset, this we made a claim on as we had an Engle stolen, they paid up no problem. Our vehicle insurer even wanted to charge us extra because we did not have it garaged at a residential address. You will also run into other problems with not having a residential address. We now have our van insured with API and they will also cover the fridges and genset while away from home for a little extra on the premium. Merry Xmas and good traveling, Regards Nav.

Thank you very much for your help. As we are under 55 years old, I wonder if we are eligible for API, but we will certainly look in to the others. Do you still have seperate insurers or are you under one for everything?

"As we are under 55 years old"

Don't confuse API with Australian Pensioners Insurance Agency (APIA)

Forgot to mention, only one person has to be over 50 for API. We have caravan and house and contents with API, vehicle still with QBE as API has no free window glass cover, they charge $100 for a broken windscreen QBE is unlimited free replacement.,,,, Nav.

AAMI is good ,,got my camper with them ,,, Not too sure if NRMA or RACV would beat them in assistance though... Price is all about the same, so I presume they all use the same Underwriter
