Hi all - I have a HJ61 Landcruiser with 12HT diesel turbo motor that wont shut down when you turn the key off.. engine still runs & when you manually shut down engine under bonnet dash lights still stay on.. power not shutting off. Only way to turn dash lights off is to disconnect battery. Have replaced ignition relay, checked all fuses, have disconnected & reconnected turbo timer in case it was that, but not.. does any one have any idea what the problem could be? Cheers & Merry Xmas, GrahamL, Tom Price WA.

Graham,

I'm not up with how the turbo timer is wired, or how much you have disonnected and reconnected, but that'd be my first check. What you are describing is how the turbo timer works, so it may be faulty - but you know that and have tried by checking it. I guess I'm wondering if you've removed all the associated wiring and connections - there may just be one bit you've missed.

I'd suggest a wider audience at forum.ih8mud.com/forumdisplay.php?f=24 might be able to help with tips too - tho a quick check for 'shutdown' hasn't found any clues that might be useful.

Sorry can't help much more than that.

?fuses behind the dash panel; dunno, just something else to check.

Tim

Sounds like your ignition switch is the problem.

This is not a real help, but I owned a 90 toyota cressida and It had problems the same as that, the bloody funny thing was it was faulty wiring in the power aerial at the back of they car. Sometimes it takes the experts to find problems. Those yotas have some funky wiring systems.

Good luck and merry xmas

If you have a 2nd battery check the wiring to make sure there is no back feed to the igniting circuit.

Hope its shut down by now....there is a butterfly on the inlet manifold that stops these motors, a choke valve...it is getting stuck or the alt is supplying back somehow instead of it loosing power via the IGN switch...have you played with a second battery lately???

to all those who gave ideas on how to stop my problem, i tried many but found out the following, the far rear interior light switch was playing up giving power feed back causing things to go wrong. i discnnected it and things are fine, i am going to get another one and see if it fixes things.
the fella with the toyota car and power arial was pretty close so thanks very much to all.
cheers graham
