Seasons Greetings to all

I was checking out oil filters in the auto shop and the guy suggested to use a washable filter. www.system1filters.com/oil_filters.htm. It sounds like a good idea for about $180 +/-. $5 or $6 a paper filter ATM so a couple of yrs I could see value. 75 micron, stainless filter, clean with thinners.

Anyone with knowledge or expeirence with this set up.

Wishing you all a Happy and healthy new year.

G day & merry Xmas,
Do your self a favour stick to paper filters 75 micron is way to large a oil filter is usually 20-30 micron (the smaller the number the better the filtration ). Dont forget you have to wash the reuseable filter in thinners or petrol so you have that expense plus your time.
Personally i would forget this idea & continue with normal spin on disposable filters. The oil filter is your first line of defence for engine ware do not attempt to save money here . Also some of these gimmicks are very fiddly to refit & a real PITA.
One trucking company i know of in the NT tried a similar unit with disastrous faults.
oil samples often came back with a contaminated reading . (filters allowing too larger particles through them). They returned to paper filters within 8 months .

I agree. If you want to start saving some serious money and cut back on the time between oil changes/filter changes, I recommend the AMSOIL bypass filtering system. This has been talked about before; up to 80,000klm between oil changes. It's not snake oil; the bypass filter goes down to 1 micron, so oil stays much cleaner for much longer. Use of 100% synthetic oil is necessary to reach this 80,000klm.

how ya going Roachie & merry Xmas,
the only problem i have with bypass systems is the fact that acid build-up is not able to be filtered so the build-up over 80,000klm could be considerable but hey if it works go for it .I think i will stay with the old 5000klm service myself....666TOY

Maybe its just me,

But when a large number of members own vehicles in excess of 50K with all their accessories etc and we are discussing saving a few hundred dollers on oil and filter changes. I believe with the temps we put most 4X4's through climbing hills and churning our way through sand etc, the expence of oils etc is a small insurance price to pay. I now drive a ULP/LPG rig and change oil (good quality) after every trip that I believe I have driven it hard.

These things look more like they are for drag racing or short run engines especially the micron rating and viscosity of the oil they flow also the names, HEAVYWEIGHT NITRO APPLICATIONS, PRO-STREET BILLET INLINE OIL FILTER 2" o.d. × 4½" long - RED ANODIZED.No way would I put one on an engine that would run for more than 30 seconds.
