OK! I’ve tried all the ones I see in the supermarkets – Red Hat (Head?), etc, etc and they’re all cra… errr… less than ideal for their designed application of setting fire to things. The slightest whiff of moisture and they fail, half of them break when I try to strike them and the half which remain look at me pathetically as they go… phut… fizzle… burn-a-bit… go out…
Back in the days when we could buy _real_ matches – the type you could strike on a bit of stone, or with your thumbnail, if you knew the trick, they burned
well but the current pathetic excuses for a match…
well… words fail me ( a rare occasion – be grateful :).
Suggestions for a good match please – goats and cigarette lighters excluded!

Mike,
Not a cigarette lighter, but......... we use a gas lighter. You've probably seen them in the supermarkets. Work
well and don't worry if they get a bit wet. The match is dead.. so to speak.

Byant & May (the manufacturer of Redhards) make or made a waterproof version called 'Greenlights' from memory that came in a wooden box. Can't recall seeing them in a while so they may have been discontinued.
The $1 ciggie lighter and CRC flamethrower works in all conditions I've found. If it's really getting rough use 'woofa wood' ie: half a CRC cap of premium unleaded.

I like the idea of the CRC flame-thrower, especially as I always carry a can of hairspray to preserve the mantle of my Coleman dual fuel light (Hmm! let's see you disprove my story anyway! :). So I'll give that a go and see what happens but as I use a 50/50 mix of old sump oil and kerosene to start a fire it only needs a decent match dropped into the middle to get going - if I could find one!?

Never had to use 'woofa wood'
camping V8D. Did have a bit of a laugh at those guys that used it for that bonfire on that video circulating a couple of years back....... I do remember telling one past employee his dad would not be impressed seeing him use it. He didn't like my suggestion, thought it safe{:-Q

Have a care Bonz, lest I am forced to describe the specifics relayed to me by Millicent in regard to you and that whip (let alone the fressing table!) you, so aptly, described in post 40594 - let he who is without sin cast the first goat!

Oi! you people.
Whats this persistent reference to 'goat/s' that is appearing in posts/threads of late.
Did I miss something about the Masonic Lodge or a member of the 'brotherhood' etc etc that was expunged, erradicated, deleted, bombed or nuked by the '
forum police' before I had a chance to read it.
Don't you just hate it when the '
forum bombers' get in before you have a chance to make up your own mind about things.

Well! I am gobsmacked Blue, to cast such an aspersion upon God's gift to 4WD-ing,
you must be one of those 'penguine suited, tongue speaking cootas' mentioned above.
And I have had a look at post 40594 re the 'fressing table and whip' thing.
I think I must have stood on someones pentagram so I will quit while I am ahead.
ROFLMAO

Hi Notso...
yet another thing I learned in the esteemed and hallowed halls of the science wing (Footscray/Yarraville Secondary College) proved wrong...LOL Apparently they excelled in teaching untruths where I went to school, it is becoming increasingly embarrassing as life waddles along. I have stood toe to toe with a couple of people and argued points only to be shown that what is in the texts I got from school is sooo far removed from reality, it really is sad.
I put it down to:

Hi Mike,
Try the
camping stores rather than the supermarkets. Last time I bought waterproof matches was from one of those. As far as I know they still have them. They were not the old greenlights but worked just as
well.
Tim.

Coleman also market a
water proof match like the old green lights. Most
camping stores have them.

Mike you can also obtain long burn matches these are usually used by the fire and conservation authorities. Damned expensive but will light on most rough surfaces and will burn in strong winds.
