Garmin GPS map unit

Hi folks. I am thinking of buying a garmin 530 map gps. I am looking for some advise and info as to whether the is a better option and your experiences with these units Thanks Ray

I'm not sure if anyone has used one of theses Chartplotters as the expected availability is listed as First Quarter 2007!

Consider the following statements from the respective pages:

"The 530 includes U.S. detailed maps of inland lakes"
"The 550 includes detailed offshore maps with Bluechart coverage for either the UK region or Australia".

Other than that, they look the same ;-)

..........Or are you talking about another GPS Unit altogether :-)

Yes I do mean the street plotter, they are not that easy to get info for in NZ. We travel a lot is Aus so I thought it a good idea.
We do have the dash mounted GPS ( Garmin ) We have done 6 weeks travel in Aus in 2006 and will be doing Adelaide to Darwin then down the coast to Perth so we think it is a good plan to have a street plotter as well
