Hi All

does any memeber have or had experiences with Coota Campers or Trak Shak. as we are selling the Caravan and getting back to the bush and are looking to invest in a camper trailer We are a family of 5.
Also can any memeber recommend camper trailers they have used in the present or past. We are in NSW and to be honest money is not a factor we just want the best

Cheers

AJ

Have you narrowed it down to these two or are you still open to suggestions ??

Trak Shak- good, Complete Campsite- good, All Terrain- very good, Kanga- very good, and about 10 others that are good as well.

When you say you want the best, well there probably isn't one thats the best ? Sometimes one of the cheaper ones suit someones needs better than a dearer one ??
Obviously with 5 people, you need a fairly spacious tent area, so maybe it comes down to the track shak, which has a model thats huge in that area ?

I'm only the 1st post on the subject so I think you will get a lot more replies on the subject yet !

Had a Trak Shak for 9 years till 2003. Paid $9800 (top money then) and sold it for $13000 after many great trips, including 3 to Birdsville, 1 to the cape. Was ideal for us with 2 kids (none at home now, so have Carry- Me-Camper).

Coils suspension, kitchen, canvas quality - all fantastic.

Replaced shocks & bearings once, elec brake coils twice (rocks are a problem), tyres a few times and re-sprayed before we sold it.

The key item for us was storage area. The track shack area is high (can stand jerry cans inside) and can be accessed from both ends. With kids, we needed to carry heaps of gear. Tied surf boards on top. Haven't seen Coota, but all others l have seen over 15 years of snooping around do not come close for storage area.

Don't like front boxes on draw bars - make tow ball weight too heavy in my opinion. My wife and 2 daughters took could take the trak shak away without me several times - they disconnected it and pushed the trailer onto sites to avoid reversing. Have tried to help others manoeuvre trailers with from storage boxes on draw bar and can't budge them when they are not on concrete.
Would not hesitate to get one again if we had a need for more room. Buy quality and you will get most of your money back.

AJ ,

I bought a Trak Shak because of the huge amount of room inside and the build quality and the kitchen set-up . I can recoomend them .

If you have oodles of money , why don't you check out Gulflander.com.au and ultimatecampers.com.au . Not my cup of tea because I like cooking outside and digging holes to commune with the wildlife , BUT , they do have everything that opens and shuts .

Cheers ,

Willie .

I just had Coota Campers build a custom offroad trailer for me. I had a tour through their workshop whilst I was there to pick the trailer up and all I can say is that it is impressive. Jim does a lot of work in developing his product and the size of his latest edition is monstorous (spelling??). It is the 5th wheel model and he tows it with his F250 dual cab.
Jim was very accomidating with items I wanted on the trailer and I'd say that he'd change layouts in his camper to suit your needs.

Cheers

For your size family the trak shak is hard to beat. Had one until the other week myself.
The beauty of the Trak Shak, and people usually don't think about it when they buy campers, is that when it is raining or just plain misearable you can all still move around easily inside the camper. We slept ten in ours one night.
Our kids are all grown up and doing their own things these days and it was a bit big for just two of us so reluctantly we sold it. Now looking for something smaller.
As someone else said there is plenty of storage space both inside the trailer and also for jerries outside and it is a relatively light camper.

Conkers, we had a good look at the Coota Camper a couple of years back when we were in the market for a CT. Looked a great unit and well built. But super heavy. Would have to be the heaviest camper trailer in Australia by far.

This is one of the reasons we went elsewhere.

If you are planning on doing serious off road travel, I'd be looking for a CT that is no more than 70% of your vehicle's tow capacity WHEN FULLY LOADED. It is easy to add over 500 KG to the base weight of your camper when you load for a trip. We do and there are only two of us! So make sure you allow plenty of leeway for the load.

Other than weight, the Coota seems a good unit. Don't know the Trak Shak well, but clearly it is a good unit as well, as are a number of other brands.

Thanks to All

the track shak is a larger CT by the looks of it, and the Coota's weight would not worry me too much for now, just be glad to see a CT behind me instead of a 26ft 3 tonne van

cheers All

will let you know how we go
