I am planning a trip to black point down near lake jasper in decastreaux np and would appreciate any info on road conditions (I think it's scott rd) into black point. I am asking because I will be towing a camper. We plan to spend 2 nights at black point before heading back to perth. All info on area appreciated.
Cheers.

It's been a few years since I've been in that area. There is three ways to get to Black Point.
1. Along Scott River Road and Milyeannup Coast Road (haven't been on this section).
2.Down Black Point road which wont give you any trouble unless it's wet. If it is wet I think it gets closed anyway. The last couple of kms is a bit tight and may be a problem if passing a vechile.
3.The third way is on Woodarburrup Road past Lake Jasper. The section between the lake and Black Point is fairly tight in places from memory and may be a problem for a camper in those places if you have to pass another vechile. I was going to go along this track again last Xmas towing our trailer but decided against it when I remembered how tight it was the first time. Other then that it isn't a particularly hard drive.
When we went along here a couple of years ago we weren't towing a trailer and had no problems other then meeting up with vechiles a couple of times on tight blind corners. From memory the camping area at Black Point isn't very big and is more suited to tents.

I can't answer as we haven't been into Black Point - i thought it was a 4wd track, and we wouldn't be able to get in with the caravan. I have lost my reference book (purchased from ExplorOz last year) "4wd days on the south coast" - that would tell you what you need to know; well worth getting. When we left last year, an early stop was at Mt Frankland, and someone there told us - there's this great book you must get for you trip - and pulled out a copy of 4wd days, which i of course already had.

I would like to get to Black Point. Hopefully someone else will have up to date info for you. The CALM office in Manjimup could probably tell you too.

Mate, are you in luck. I'm heading in there tomorrow, and one of our group will have a camper. However, Idont think its scott rd that I use, it runs off of jangardup rd. You shoul dhave no problems getting a camper in there, the tracks are farily well used, however make sure you air down acoordingly as the black sand down that way can be mighty hungry.

I will post some feedback upon my return

Thanks a lot guy's. I did find trip notes on this site and also a section of 4wd weekends has the usual good notes for this section. Bit disconcerting to hear campsite maybe too small! Whats with c.a.l.m. and their copper log/tent obsession??

Just did that exact route today. Roads are dry and sandy - not extra sandy but enough to warrent decent tyre pressures especially if towing a camper. There are other ways in (I did a loop coming out along scots road)but all are sandy and a bit tight. didnt see any other camper trailors and they would deffinitly be a pain as everyone coming accross you would have to reverse to the nearest spot but would definitly be do able. very busy down there ATM but should quietn down after new years.Any questions dont hesitate

Thanks Davoe. I will give C.A.L.M a ring on Tuesday to see if Black Point Road is open. This appears to be a more direct route. If not I will go in from Scott Rd end. I believe the tighter sections are between Lake Jasper and Black Point. Set me straight if I'm wrong!
Cheers.

hey ho,

well returned safe and sound.

We went in Black point road (near jangardup mine) and it is open and is fairly easy going. We had one car towing a camper and had no problems at all, just had to pick the right gear and tyre pressure for the small sandy hills.

Came out along scott rd today, fairly easy, a little chopped out due to people running high tyre pressures, but otherwise all is good. A few soft bits, but you will have no problems.

Jasper (lake) was pretty full, a couple of bush camps at Jasper Beach were vacant.

We stayed at Black Point, on a small clearing on the right hand side about 1km from the cross road for the wapet track and blackpoint road. You cant miss it. All the other camp sites were either full or a bit too small for our group. The spot we chose was able to fit 4 vehicles, 1 camper and three tents. Could easily have squeezed in a couple of more. It is clear and is existing. The ranger drove right past us today and just waved. It is right next to the track, but is in between a 's' bend, so speeding traffic was not an issue.

Slight S/SW breeze, 1-2 m swell and plenty of sunshine. Its a magic place, Im sure you will enjoy your stay.

Great news! Thanks Mike. All my questions answered. Glad you had a good time and I'm sure we will also. Heading down Wednesday. Thank's all for great info on a great resource for travellers. Im a NSW lad but am thinking of applying for a W.A passport as the people are much nicer! Not sure of the footy code yet....But anyway, stay safe!
