I seem to recall a fellow forumite that has a shed full of tyres, dozens and dozens of 'em.
He has had just about all combinations known to man, and a few he probably made up himself.......lol lol
Can't just remember who at the moment but he may check this post, he may even have a full set of each.......lol
Mornin' Willem
Cheers
Micael

Arrr yer a naughty bugga, eh?
9 Dunlop tyres are in the trailer going to a good home next week.
5 x Coopers and Nissan alloy rims are for sale in the Trader section of this site
5 x Eldorado ZTR tyres on steels are for sale in the Trader section of this site
I will clear the shed out yet!!
Have now shod Nissan with MRF Super Traction 12 ply and trailer with used MRF M77's. They're a tad noisy on the bitumen though.
BTW I have removed roofrack from GQ. Mayby your son would be interested in it for his Maverick?
Cheers

Mate,
Id go the Waeco brand, maybe AC 50, because they better than Engel, but make sure you run them with a Hiclone!

See if you can get 4x4 monthly (magazine) January edition 2006.
They do a comparison on a few different tyres.
Otherwise you'll get a heap of personal
views.
cheers

Well I am biased as I use Cooper’s LOL
The ST’s have a more aggressive Tread pattern than the BFG AT’s.
The ST’s also suffer from Chipping on the outside lugs, which seams to bother some people, I don’t know, my set have chipped and I am not the least bit concerned over it, I would post a photo but can’t be arsed doing it now, but the chipping I have on
mine anyway, really is Nothing to worry about IMO

Exploder,
If you go th the ST/C's you will almost eliminate the chipping problem.

I've had BFG's for years and have always had a good run out of them but saying that It really is a toss of the coin and personal preference. The only recomendation i would say is if you decide to buy BFG's make sure they are made in the USA and not in Japan. They are a different compound and have heard they are not as durable. A good friend has ST's on his patrol and they seem to be wearing very
well without any "chipping" as yet and they have been to the Cape and back.

Can't comment on the BFGs as I have not used them. But they must be OK as they are probably the biggest selling AT tyre in Australia.,
I run 31 inch STs on my Hilux. Have done about 30,000 KM on them including a fair bit of off roading. Biggest trip on them has been 16,000 KM to
Kimberley etc including 6,000 KM off bitumen. No problems and no punctures.
Being more aggressive, the STs are a bit noiser on road than a lot of ATs, probably including the BFG. But they are a good off road tyre, while still being good on road. I've found the STs to have good self cleaning cabability in mud.
I've had no trouble with chipping on the STs, but I'm aware that some other have. As have owners of other tyres.
Don't think it matters much. Both good tyres. Perhaps base the decision on the amount and type of off roading you will do. Price also perhaps.

I have Cooper A/T's on the new car for running around town. They've proved to be very quiet and grip
well.
In the bush I run a set of Cooper ST's. The ST's are noisier than the above, but give good performance.
At the end of the day I'm not sure there's much difference between the major brands.
If a tyre is taken into country where punctures and damage are inevitable, you really can't blame the manufacture.
Have a think about what your going to ask the tyre to do. If it's a bit of dirt, or a
Simpson Desert crossing (for example) A/T's will be fine.
Mud, rock or cross country travel require a lot more thought.
Regards
Kim

Coopers sell because of clever advertising.
BFG sell because of a great reputation in the past.
They are both very good bitumen tyres, and will give you plenty of
miles of you are kind to them.
Other tyres sell by word of mouth, and don't need much advertising - Goodyear MTR are more puncture resistant than the others, and don't easily chip. But they won't give the bitumen
miles that you'll get out of the others.

I'd go for Cooper ATR's, not ST's. Ive done 75000km and will probably IMHO, get another 40-50000km. My brother has ST-C's .Done 45000 and nearly worn completely out. (He has a heavy fooot though). ATR's have less noise and also offer a great ride and awesome handling in all conditions. I travel on very varied road conditions from tar to disgraceful gravel. Tyres have chipped a little, but still will get great mileage. That's my 2 bobs worth, hope it helps. Keep it real! Kirsten (NSW)

Just another after thought! My old man has BFG Mud terrains on his Cruiser RV ute, a little noisier. Gets reasonable mileage but nowhere near ATR's. For the road (and offroad) conditions we both travel both tyres are good with next to no punctures. As stated above 75000km and only 1
puncture on ATR's, and was not tyres fault (metal spike in long grass). Happy choosing!! Kirsten (NSW)
