Hi all,

I am in need of a recovery hi-lift style jack. Just wondering if any of the S.A. boys and girls have one they are getting rid of?

Cheers
Jason

Saw brand new high lift jacks in the spares dept at CMI in Wright St in the City. Cost was $85. I have no idea what they are like.

If you are buying second hand - try to get either the Jackall or Hi-lift brands.

Phil is correct in that both the brands are US derived. As their products have to be "sue proofed", we can generally expect to get a product that will operate safely for the intended purpose, bearing in mind, there can be no more lethal weapon than a high lifting type jack used in-correctly. (rather like a rifle in that respect) A number of this type of jack have been recently pulled from the market, some to be re-assessed and stamped as conforming to the relevant Australian standard.
My understanding is the popular "Beaver" brand is included in this group..I and my friends have several of the great Beaver jacks and have used them very often and will continue to. (not always for 4x4 use.jacking ride on mower to fit blades etc with drums as backup) I use one often when taking pix from roof-rack top of my rig to put pressure on tow hitch to stop my dogs moving rig and blurring images..Safety! Always leave handle clipped in vertical position when load is applied to jack..My face knows why.I did'nt but,I promise you I always will now.Hurts! Purple is not a good face color..Hint! On any brand, whilst jacking, observe that the pins go all the way in on every ratchet movement.Don't get distracted.Safety depends on it..I spray each of our jacks ratchet pin areas with Inox Lanox to keep them operating sweetly which equates to safely.Save trips to chiropractor.Get a high lifting type jack.Helps? $100.00 odd bucks buys you a new Hi Lift from ARB.
Why bother with a second hand one at the price???

Here's one on ebay:

It's in Adelaide and new... but why go second hand on such a cheap item?

I've got several. Even the Supercheap one is fine and dandy...

Whip out the credit card and head of to the sales!!!

Thanks for that Royce.

That particular one I have been looking at but they don't seem to want to answer their e-mails.

It is cheap yes but I would prefer to know something about it.

Hi Royce,

I reckon a second hand Canadian-made 8000lb Jackall for $80 is a much better buy than a Chinese made no-name with only 3000kg (6600lb) capacity for the same money.

You have to be a bit paranoid about safety when using one, so why take a big compromise on quality?

I disagree. The REAL difference between hi lift jacks... is the operator. If you are lifting 8000lbs or 6600lbs but have no idea about stability or where to use it... big trouble.

So...... where is this $80 second hand Canadian-made Jackall?... When buying second hand, you can guess that something is out there.. but find it!

Then again.... what stresses has the second hand jack been through? How far do you have to travel to get it? If you have a business there is GST and tax deductability to consider. What is your time worth.

Having said that... yep .... I actually agree with you. Given the choice... I'd go for the better model. I just can't resist putting all sides of an argument.

Cheers Royce.... happy new year.

Royce,
I'd love to disagree too, but I think we're on the same wavelength :-))
Happy New Year too and hope you have a good time in the SupaTrupa!!

Hi Jason

I have an unused High Lift Jack you can have for $50. We've never used it and don't even take it with us anymore. We don't do that sort of 4 wheel driving any more. We live in Findon. Give me a contact number and we'll get in touch if you are still interested.
