G'day all,
I'm looking at buying some new
driving lights. Just wondering what people would recommend.
The Facts:
I live out bush so good lighting is important. I go 4WDing in the bush a fair bit.
There to go on a 1990 75 series. NSW resident.
Thanks,
AzzA LC75

I hate to say it but Light Force. There is a generic copy out that is pretty good.
The advantage of Light Force is that they will take a total pounding.

Yeah the copies are called the roo-lite made by nite-stalker i think. Every bit as good as the real ones they say lol. Only come in one size 180.

The only issue I have seen come up with nite-stalker is wether the outer shells are as tough as the light force.
I was down at Opposite Lock and the lad got the Light Force outer shell and REALLY smashed it against the corner of a metal cupboard. I had to look hard to see where the impact was on the shell.
I asked him to do it with the nite-stalker outer. He declined.
Light Force are apparently US made and US patented. The Nite-Stalker is a direct copy made in Australia that gets around the patent.
Seems this US patent doesn't extend to Australia.
Good for us!

Jason, I beleive that the Lightforce lights are designed and manufactured in little ol
Adelaide. Thet were originally designed as a spot light for the shooters.

I have the Lightforce 170 with one spot cover and one wide angle and they are excellent for the size. I have had a look at the copies on a friends car and compared them side by side at night.
The copies are not as deep in the reflector body and do not have quite as long range in
the spot beam as the Lightforce 170 but are still quite good and look a bit neater. However, for the same wattage globes (100w) the Lightforce 240 absolutely kill both the 170 and 180 copy for sheer light output both spot and wide beam are brighter.

Azza,
depends what you want to spend.....
under $150 I would say Narva but Nite Stalker are meant to be good too.
I've never been 4wding at night tho...........
plenty of driving to and from
places at night and the narvas are
miles in front of no extra lights at all....

Have had the nightstalker on the Navara for 18 months. Excellent and have taken a real pounding without missing a beat.

I've been looking into this too. I have IPF 800. They ok, came with car. My daughter wants something that goes further. Decided Nite Stalker Roo lites, copy of Lightforce 170 strikers, were best value for money and reports on sturdiness very good. Best price I have found so far is from Site Link
if you find a better price please post info as I haven't bought them yet.

Have got Lightforce XGT's, theyre that good I wouldnt buy anything else. Inthe bush your headlights should be fine, if not then upgrade the globes to 100/130's or go Philips Plus50's,
driving lights for4wdbush driving are not much chop IMHO.

AzzA ,
Be very careful before you buy Hella Predator HID lights or the same model without the HID . The wiring enters half way up the back of the lights and if you go through a
water crossing , the
water pours in up to the level of those wires .
Hella do not cover this under warranty and say the only light they sell that you should take in to
water , is their special
water proof model . I found this out the hard way , after drowning two Predators worth $2300 .
Most of my friends run Lightforce in the upper price range or IPF in the better value area .
If you are a bit older ( like I am ) and your eyesight is failing to pick up roos on the side of the road , then think seriously about HID . They turn night into day and the spread beams go as far as my old Oscar pencil beams .
Cheers ,
Willie .

Hi Azza
There are two that I would recommend.
1) Lightforce XGT XGT
2) Vision 8500 HID Vision
I have more info on my site
Driving Lights
The Vision HID are in the same case design as the Hella Rallye 4000.
Regards
Derek.

Toss up between the Hella & Lightforce. Have had both.
One thing I prefer about the Lightforce (240 Blitz) is their easy mounting/aiming. A rather tired cow sat on my bullbar the other day. The lightforce spotties were pushed back out of the way. Once she'd been removed, it is quite easy to re-aim the lights. If they'd been Rally 4000's, the lights would have taken the brunt of it and may not have looked so
well afterward!

In all honesty lightforce cibe are good but i personally go for good old fashend Hella there good quality good reflectors & when you wreck them (as is bound to happen if you live in a high roo populated area) you wont feel too bad about it because of there price.
Frankly i think there the best value light out there. Most trucks use Hellas so they cant be too bad.
I personally have had 1 set of Hella bull lights on 3 different vehicles now & really swear by them.

The thing is, have you ever heard of a smashed up lightforce?
I've heard on all impacts that you just re-aim them and drive off...

666toy,
I have had a couple of truck drivers ask what lights I use as I overtake them and light up the night. Two trucks I remeber specifically were running Hella's but couldn't match, for distance, the L/force xgt's I run. When out west, there is no comparison to the XGT's IMO.
Cheers Trevor.

Not saying there a bad light just overpriced (lightforce)
The most brilliant lights i have seen lately have been a set supplied by John
Deer HID set-up & believe me they outshine those xgt & for those interested there really inexpensive compared to other brands on the market & very rugged. After all there designed to withstand agricultural abuse. Still expensive compared to normal halogen lights though. Actually JD make a full line up of spotties that are every bit as good as anything els on the market & extremely
well priced.
By the way i use a lightforce 240 blitz for shooting & i had to get it replaced when i first got it due to being a problem with the reflector & the switch had to be replaced so there not the be all & end all of lights . It is a very brilliant light for sure ( i am sure it frys a fox,s eyes @ 1000mtr ) but i am afraid i would never buy one again due to its teething problems...........666TOY
