Going to the Cape next year in July Travelling in Two 4wd GQ and GU Both with 6 inch
suspension and a lot of accesories. I have found a lot of information on DVD's and Books regarding were the special spots are to visit but nothing in paticular abot Lakefield National
Park. It looks quite interesting on the Map Has anybody been there in recent times and if so where in the
park is it a good place to
camp. We love to fish so if there are some good fishing spots please share info.
Is it worth going?
Thanking you in advance

Why don't you just put "Lakefield National Park" into your search engine?
I did - and the first hit took me to -
,a href="

Lakefield is a great place just to cruise through and stop anywhere that you think looks nice..
We stayed at
Lake Emma this year and found fishing quite poor as we did over most of the Cape but caught the odd catfish and sooty grunter (black bream),,, July is getting a bit cold for Barra...

jockey,
Several
places to
camp in the
park, most popular is probably at
Kalpowar Crossing just around the corner from the Rangers. Cold showers and
toilets. Never fished in the
park as we were always going somewhere else and only passing through.
Cheers,
Bros.

Mate the
Park is pretty special and our favourite
camp spot is Mick Fien
camp number five but all the camps are good. Be VERY careful there as there a lot of big crocs right through the Cape and they are certainly in the Normanby. On our first time there the Boss decided she would get some
water, spilled some which made the bank slippery, turned and splat, turned the
water to froth and emerged hardly wet. That night got out a spotlight and shone it around and there were five lizards in the hole. From then on she let someone else get the
water. Don't miss Vyrlia Point on your trip. There is a large estuary to the north along a lovely beach and good fishing can be had there and also from the rocks to the south. There is also a pleasant fresh
water creek a couple of Ks to the south with a small
water fall into a rather inviting looking
water hole BUT, we have seen crocks in it on a couple of occassions. Safe to have a bath above the falls though always have a look around first. Enjoy your trip to a magical part of the world.
