I am heading off down to the South West of WA for the Aust Day long weekend and I am thinking of going to the Sue's Bridge
Camping Ground off of Sue's Road to do a little
camping, fishing and canoeing.
In my QPA Roads & Tracks of WA it shows that there are three
camp site within that area - all on the
Blackwood River, two to the west of the road and one on the east side.
I am interested if anyone else has been to any of the sites and what each one is like. I am expecting that the main site will probaly be filled by the time I get there so I will proberly have to find the other two.
Any constructive comments welcomed.
Thanks.
Karl

Hi Karl. Been a few years since I have been there. Only camped at Sue's bridge, but was a top spot. designated
camp sites with bush between sites.Concrete ring
B-B-Q and table at each site, wood supplied by Calm. Don't know about fishing
but we took a canoe and paddled down river nice and peaceful. You may have to
carry canoe over rocks in some parts. A long weekend it may be crowded and you
might get a
camp site. Watch for Leeches it you go swimming.
Hope this helps. Brian

earlier this year (maybe late 2005) much work was being done around sues bridge by calm with many
camping areas closed or being closed. best check with dec (previously calm) to find out exactly what is what down there. as for the aust day weekend - hopefully most of the moron element will be in
perth for the annual get drunk and fight fireworks show so it may be ok..............but then again it might just be better going after school goes back early feb. rgds

Karl can't help with the campsites but Marsh flies are a real nuisance down that way at the moment so stock up on plenty of Bushman or Rid. Hope to be down that way also for the Aust Day weekend, but staying at the Barabup Sanctuary

Hi Karl....was down there recently at sues bridge...calm has done a lot of work...bbq's, campers kitchen, plenty of firewood,
drinking water, etc but is very popular and comes with a nightly fee of about $6-12 ( I think..not sure) collected by
ranger, but this fee is pretty standard most
places, ie blackpoint,
lake jasper,etc.
Since it is the holidays..you can't even get there early to secure a spot, so best of luck, regards Phil

Hi Karl was there at Sues Bridge over Christmas. Was infact very empty then. A top spot great
camp sites plenty of shade(lovely big marri and jarrah trees) a great table fire-spot plenty of firewood and rain
water tank.
There are 2 more
camping areas out on mowen road . Mowen road is a gravel road that runs east and about 10km to the North of the Sues Bridge. The two
camping spots are called workmans pool and the barabup
camping area which are on (I think Barabup North Road ) which runs off Mowen road you cant miss it.
Nice spots too but the Sues Bridge is best for canoeing. No march flies when I was there but flies in the day were a bit of a pain. Will definitely go there again

Thanks for everyone's responses - unfortunately plans have changed as my wife is now working late Thursday night so we can't head off that afternoon.
Might look at Lane-Poole Reserve - bit closer to home at Rockingham.
